I agree with many that are on this list but, Axl certaintly tops many that shouldn't have made the cut. The first two, would be my picks for the first two (and in the same order as well).

Man, guess that's what Axl gets. People are starting to forget.

U2 and Kurt Cobain don't deserve to be on that list, but neither does Axl Rose, or if he did, it should be Axl Rose & Izzy Stradlin.

Cobain is an incredible songwriter..so is Bono/U2. The one I wouldn't have on the list is Elton and Bernie. It almost looks like a list I would write! hihi

That's a pretty good list. Except Kurt Cobain he's just a moan. I'm surprised there's no Gilmour/Waters. Or Hendrix. Or there's no Bowie either.

I don't know if Axl "alone" belongs on that list- mostly because of a lack of material. What he has done has been brilliant though.

A "Rose/Stradlin'" entry absolutely belongs on that list though... for AFD alone. It's a legendary tandem.

It would have been guns n roses like it was led zeppelin
That is a great list save u2 and nirvana.

Yes The list seems quite reasonable. Not a big fan but I'd put Queen cos it's about songwriting.

The youngest n latest is the dead one. sad ay.

Lol - without Roger Waters included that list only serves to prove the writers ignorance. If someone can find a song with better lyrics than 'Time' i'd love to hear it!

Guns n roses have just as many albums as nirvana. Guns n roses have AFD, Lies, UYI I and UYI II.
Nirvana have Bleach, nevermind and inutero.

Izzy, would you like about 100 other songs with better lyrics than Time? hihi Waters is great but NOTHING compared to the man at number 1.

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains,
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways,
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests,
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans,
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?
And what did you hear, my darling young one?
I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin',
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world,
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin',
Heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin',
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin',
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter,
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?
Who did you meet, my darling young one?
I met a young child beside a dead pony,
I met a white man who walked a black dog,
I met a young woman whose body was burning,
I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow,
I met one man who was wounded in love,
I met another man who was wounded with hatred,
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Oh, what'll you do now, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what'll you do now, my darling young one?
I'm a-goin' back out 'fore the rain starts a-fallin',
I'll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest,
Where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
Where the executioner's face is always well hidden,
Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
Where black is the color, where none is the number,
And I'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it,
Then I'll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin',
But I'll know my song well before I start singin',
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

?For anyone the least bit interested in true genius and true artistry, I suggest watching the PBS documentary on Dylan tonight at 9pm et. I know it is being broadcast in the UK, but not sure about everywhere else. Tonight is part 2 and it is amazing. I bought the dvd last week. One interesting comment Dylan made was that an artist can NEVER be content with where he is at today-always strive for something new, better, and different (as long as the artist is true to himself). This part of the documentary is about Dylan going from folk to rock in 65-66 (all acoustic material to electric). His fans rip him apart. But, he obviously persevered, held true to HIS vision, and eventually changed rock and roll, literally, forever. He could have easily quit or given the fans what they wanted at the time, but he didn't. Look at the result, now almost unanimously considered to have recorded three of the top twenty greatest cd's of all time during 65-66 (Highway 61, Blonde on Blonde, and Bringing it all back home). Sometimes you have to give a certain portion of your fan base a big "fuck you". Shocked

Dylan is the greatest songwriter of all time. Saying otherwise makes a man a fool. But of course you are entitled to your utterly wrong insignificant opinion.

I will agree with your second assertion.

Coldplay is to U2 is what Oasis is to the Beatles.
