Just want to get a feel for what ppl are expecting for the next record.? Would you like to see a continuation of Contraband or would you like to see them branch out into a slightly different direction?? Is Come On, Come In a step in the right direction?

No, I certainly don't want an album like Contraband and while 'Come On Come In' is a nice song, it's not the kind i want on the new album. I hope they go back to the basics with just lead, rhythm and bass on guitar. In Contraband, they've used various effects, with Slash using Strats and other guitars. Something similar to the config used in AFD would be nice.

I feel the same way..  Nothing will ever be like afd.... It will be hard rock with a few rock ballads... Never know with scott though.. A tune like interstate love song would be cool....  afd + core would be nice

It really is hard to tell what direction this next album will take. With Scott it is kinda hard to predict , just look at the STP catalog, the last couple of albums they did were as diverse as you can get. I think maybe the new VR album will be along the lines of STP's 4 album heavy modern rock with maybe a few LTA type of songs. I really liked STP's Shangri La album, i wouldn't be disappointed with something in the vein of that.

While I was one to really like Contraband when it came out, I did feel a bit that the members of Gn'R plus Weiland had it in them to release something stronger. However, we have to look at how Contraband was put together. Duff, Slash, Matt, and Dave wrote about 60 songs, to which Weiland picked 13 to add vocals and melodies to. It wasn't a very collaborative process as far as Scott was concerned. He was locked up in the rehab home basically until they started the US tour in May of 2004, so there is that rushed factor to the record, even though it seems it took forever to get out. With the new release, I think everything points to it being a stronger album. They've been on the road together, writing, collaborating. Scott is a very creative guy (see his solo record 12 Bar Blues), and deliverthecow was dead-on about the STP records. I wouldn't underestimate what they are capable of as a unit by any means. This really is a make-'em or break-'em album. There was so much buzz surrounding Contraband that I think people were just impressed with the fact that it came out. Now they are going to have to rely on the songs for respect, and not so much on the novelty factor of "Oh wow--it's Slash and Scott Weiland!"

I think the second record will be simular to Contraband but that bit better. Because when writing for Contraband Slash, Duff, Matt and Dave had to keep there songs as broad as possible, seein as they didn't know exactly what they'd be working with vocal wise. Now, they know who they have and have had enough time to gel with him. This time round they can write songs completely designed to suit Scott's style of singing. My hopes are high.

It sounds like you want a Guns N' Roses album.. You want them to "go back to the basics".. What are they going back to?? This was their first album?

I would like to see them evolve which I think will happen... Like everyone else said they will be writing this album together as a unit which should be cool. I personally fucking love Come On Come In and would like to see more songs like that and Superhuman.. I also hope they do get more of a live feel to the album.  Slash is a lead player and all his leads and fills are turned way down so you can barely hear them half the time.. It really takes away from some of teh songs.. When you see the bootlegs you can hear all the fills and leads and its great.. There were more on Come On Come In so I think we will see more of it... I also hope they don't feel like they have to put "A Hit Ballad" just because FTP did good.. I despise that song...

I'm not a big fan of FTP either. But I wasn't overly impressed with Come On Come In, nor Superhuman back on Contraband. I preferred songs like Sucker Train Blues, Do It For The Kids, Dirty Little Thing.. killer riffs and a fast tempo.

Its easy for bands to do a follow up record that sounds very similar to the prior album, We dont want that.... Look at Audioslave, The first one and second sound the same, you get lost in the distortion and shit. hopefully VR will just get back to basics and kick our asses. They definately have the potential but now its 100% up to them....

I dont like Contraband, but I am really looking forward to their next album. Way too much talent in VR to fuck up a second time. They definitely need to go in a different direction. Hopefully, VR will do some stuff like STP's 'Dead and Bloated', 'Down', 'Sour Girl', 'In the Suit That You Wear',etc. There is alot more at stake with this album than there was when Contraband was released.

Longer solos, more rock and roll, more blues. More 'strange songs', you know, something in the style of drugged-up STP.

But I'd be really interested in a psychedelic album, too, with a lot of acoustic things, since even Slash and Scott loves that style. LTA would be a great example for what I mean.

i agree i still can't figure out why the producer chose to lower slash and raise the rythim and bass way up in the mix.... i mean honestly its slash we're talking about here wtf??? lol

anyway i think they have had ample time to gel as a band and their second album will easily top contraband....also based on the diversity of the STP records, as well as AFD and UYI, i'm sure we'll see something new musically and a change in direction from Contraband.

I agree with tomass74, i fucking love 'Come On, Come In'. The production was so much better on that song than the 'Contraband' album. I also liked what Dave Kushner brought to that song, the effects on his guitar were excellant. I also thought Duff's bass sounded great, not that it didn't on 'Contraband' but on 'Come On' it sounded alot fuller. I also wouldn't be disappointed if we got a few more songs in the vein of LTA, i too didnt care too much for 'Fall To Pieces' i would rather hear stuff like LTA or some slower stuff that STP did like 'Atlanta' , 'Wonderful', 'Hello It's Late', or ' Bi-Polar Bear'. I love the STP's "Shangri-La Dee Da" album, it isnt real heavy or anything but it is a damn good record. Like everyone has stated the next album will be more of a collaboration, not that the CB songs are weak by any means but  i think it is pretty safe to say the songs on album#2 are going to be stronger. This is one release i have really high expectations for.
