Use Your Illusion

« on: September 12, 2005, 08:51:48 PM »

I'm considering buying a new guitar in the coming months, most likely before the end of the year. However, I'm not really sure what im looking for. After playing a few different guitars, I'm starting to realize just how uncomfortable (or perhaps just how much more comfortable and better I played on other guitars) my Epi LP is. I am looking for something with 24 frets, a whammy bar, a different body design for sure...I don't know much about guitars as far as quality goes. Maybe a Jackson or Ibanez? Any advice would be appreciated. I am also looking to study music theory, guitar, etc. in college so maybe i should get a nice guitar now and take that with me. I've got about $3,000 to play with, but i definitely don't want to spend it all, as i am also hoping to put some towards a new amp (fucking fender frontman 15 watt has been KILLING me lol). So maybe in the $1,000-$1500 range? Ha...I just realized I haven't even been playing for a year.....1 year on the 14th. lol, funny to remember that..maybe something else to consider, too early to be spending that kind of dough on it? But either way...any advice anyone?

For $1000-$1500, u can get almost any guitar u want. Some:

1) Ibanez JS Signature series
2) Brian May Signature series (Nice)
3) Tradition MTP Series (Very Nice)

i can't believe that you don't like playing on your lp unless you have an exremely bad one, but i have just tried a neck through mochingbird ant it fucking rocked, it felt relly cool playing on compared to lets say an SG or a strat or tele.! i think it has 24 long scale frets not 100% sure tho and it has a super smooth neck plus a great whammy bar, the neck's def. thinner than my 59 style lp so it might be a little "faster" kind of.

When i got back to my lp tho, i instantly saw and felt why i love the les paul over any other guitar  Roll Eyes hihi

I second that.? The JS models are quality guitars.? Maybe take a look at a Jackson Soloist.? The Wolfgang by Peavey, ya know, EVH guitar would be my pick though, one of the more confortable guitars I've played.? And I'm an LP guy.

it's not so much that i don't like playing it, i generally like it a alot...i just noticed that i was more comfortable playing something else...i do like alot of things about the LP though, it's not that the LP is uncomfortable, i was just more comfortable with a different guitar

thanks for suggestions guys, i will check those out! also, any idea where ican try some of these? it seems like whenever i go to guitar center (pretty much the only guitar store i know around here), the only nicer guitars they seem to have are the gibson LPs...keep the suggestions comin though! thanks? peace

Maybe you need a guitar with a smaller neck, thinner strings or somethin, I personnally used to have trouble playing and my hands would cramp easily, then i got a newy with a thin neck and extra light strings and a floyd rose bridge, Great for sustain!!! Good luck mate!!! ok

the other day i was at sam ash and i played a strat and a tele and all i can is WOW...they were fucking great, as far as playability goes...Neck was so smooth and easy to play on i was amazed. Tele was kinda ugly Tongue but not the most important thing to me. Was it strats that i hear are great guitars but are just unpredictable/unreliable? if so, how so?

mega, yeah maybe thinner strings too, im playin on 10s now, some nines ive played on feel like spider webs, but others actually felt great...not sure what the deal with that is...would it be kinda going backwards to switch to 9s now? as far as finger strength goes?
