Is there any interviews where Axl discusses this song? I cant remember, and Ive been looking for an interview where he mentions it and I cant find it. I know its supposed to be about abuse. But did Axl say that? Or is that just speculation? I was looking at an 80's website last night, and one of the songs on their list was 'There Was a Time'. The date of its release was 1982. I dont remember who the band is that released it, but it was an obscure band I've never heard of. If Axl hasn't discussed this song in detail, and if there's no real information about him writing it, TWAT might actually be a cover.

Song after song combines the edgy hard rock force and pop smarts of vintage Guns N Roses with surprisingly modern and ambitious music textures. In addition to the album's almost grungy title track, tentative song titles include ''Catcher in the Rye,'' ''I.R.S,'' ''The Blues'' and ''TWAT,'' which he says stands for ''there was a time.''

I dont think Axl ever said it, but it was in an article about it where the autor said TWAT was about Axls childhood abuse.

Zakk Wylde described the song in an interview once.

My theory of the song:

There Was A Time when we were happy. So how did we get here from there? Where have all the good times gone:Ubi Sunt.

He said in an interview with RollingStone magazine that it was about going through the divorce process.

Where's this interview where Axl mentions it? One of you says abuse, the other says they heard its about his divorce process. I highly doubt its about both. Obviously, if Axl hasn't went into detail about the song, it could be about anything. I was just wondering if he had ever mentioned anything about actually writing the song.

I never heard TWAT was about the divorce, that song is Oklahoma not TWAT. I always remember TWAT being said to be about Axls childhood abuse.

Dave, I have also heard years ago about TWAT being about his childhood abuse. But I dont remember if it came out of Axl's mouth or if it was just speculation by a reporter, fan, etc. By the way, has anyone heard that 'There Was a Time' from 1982 that I was referring to?

Journey, I think you're wrong. Some think Oklahoma was changed to Riyadh, while people like me think Oklahoma is IRS.

No that was riyady and that person was wrong because on the set list for HOB it said they were going to play oklahoma but instead they played riyadh.

I had the chance of asking zakk wylde few questions, trought a live chat from gibson.com

I asked him about his relationship with axl, and about TWAT.

He replied that Rose is an exelent guy and he feel nothing but love and respect for him.

In another interview (I really don't remember the source) Zakk said that TWAT was the best song he ever wrote.

I also asked him about his entire work with axl, he replied "Just pick a black label album and put axl's voice on it"

I hope that answer some of your questions  peace
