Hi,
What is the best Guns N' Roses biography that has ever been written?
Cheers,
Rob.

I would say "Over the top : the true story of Guns N' Roses" is probably the best written one.

If you're looking for a somewhat out of date, yet rather amusing read - I'd suggest "Appetite for Destruction" by Danny Sugarman. Be forewarned, the guy draws about 300 Axl / Jim Morrisson comparisons throughout.. probably because Sugarman also wrote a rather well known Jim Morrisson / Doors bio (I believe entitled "No one gets out alive" )

Anyone know where I can pick it up for a reasonable price? I've checked eBay - no sign - and amazon, where it costs a small fortune for a second hand copy.
Cheers,
Rob.

Just don't buy anything with Mick Wall's name on it. The biographies I have read seem to be anti guns, constantly snapping on the UYI discs and trying to find any flaw they can, and constantly comparisons whether it be Metallica or some other band.

My version of Over The Top has been updated by Malcolm Dome and Mick Wall (93-95/96 period from memory).
Pretty comprehensive read, id say its the best ive seen so far.
Ive heard comments such as 'Over The Top is basically Mark Putterford giving Izzy a load of blow jobs'
Dont know if I agree though.
Going away from the biographies, also check out The Pictures by George Chin and Robert John's The Photographic History

If it is favourable towards Izzy, I would definitely be interested. I've always had strong opinions on how his departure was the catalyst for the break up of the band. Still can't find a copy available for less than $59.99. Anyone have a spare copy available or know where I can find one for cheaper? I've checked amazon, gemm, netsounds... no luck.

A couple of weeks ago I bought the book "The Band That Time Forgot" by Paul Stenning (I think that's his name)
It's ok, it tells most stories and anecdotes out there, but drags on a bit in the middle blabbering about Axl and his child abuse trauma. There is also a shitload of grammatical/spelling errors and repeated quotes/stories etc, making the whole thing seem very amateur-ish.
If you know nothing about GNR it's a good read, but you can learn just as much, if not more, by reading all the magazine articles posted at this site.

The current pole has a question about GNR books. My question is, what are the books that are out there, and are any of them worth buying? For those of you who have read a GNR book, is it a good read. I would like to read a book on GNR, or Axl, but want something good. Can any of you help?

I kinda liked "The Band Time forgot", there were alot of cool facts in it (plus some inaccuracies) but other than that its most expansive chapter deals with the time period of Axl's life following the original lineup's slow demise....

Isn't there a book out there that says Axl died in the mid 90's and the current Axl is a fake? What's the name of that book? Who wrote it?
