National ID Cards?

Should everyone have to Carry A National ID Card??  Do you think it is a good idea??  I have to study this topic for an assignment and I believe that they would be a benifit to society, wtih all information easily to access.  But that is just MY opinion.

What about everyone else out there?  I know there are alot of different ideas about them going around.

I'm split on this. In theory I'm against it. But if it's nothing more than a standardized driver's license for every state, I don't mind. I can live with it as long as it remains a driving "privilege" thing and I'm not required to carry it.

well as i'm too hot to get in trouble, i never get arrested, so i dont get fine or anything.

well with europe, now that you don't need a passport, it's cool. you just use that card to travel.
but im waiting for the new kind of id card (with biological, digital) information on it.
and then
the big step will be that your fingers, blood, or anything will be your id card
police pulls you off, you put your finger in a little machine, and hop !, they know who you are .... yay ! science fiction !!!

ya the biometric one is what will be coming down in canada and the US, and dont be surprised if it is a joint venture.......... that starts with frequent cross border travlers to ease teh passage from country to country. that talks that have been running around here is that it will be a smart card and it will contain all major medical info.... and it will have a picture of yourself, and an retnial image built into it as well.

it will also have bio info writen on it like what country you are from etc, once you swipe the stripe it will acess a DB that contains info on all carriers and will give border officers a greater ability to do their job. it will also act as a standardised drivers licence and will be reqiured for anyone over teh age of 12.
