Guess what band Soul Asylum opened for in 1993.  Grin

Tommy' ties to GN'R are kinda funny. Now he plays with a band that has opened for GN'R. He toured with Alien Crime Syndicate, who's bass player used to be in Loaded, which happens to be the band Tommy's predecessor started after GN'R.

/jarmo

Not only that, The Replacements played Texas Stadium in '88 with Guns, and If I'm not mistaken wasn't Tommy in Tom Petty's touring band back in like '89 when Axl joined him for "free fallin'" at a few shows?

Did Tommy ever speak publically on GnR/Axl prior to joining?

I don't think so. The Replacements didn't tour at all in 1988. They opened for Tom Petty in '89 but to my knowledge they never played with him. You must be mistaking them for someone else Wink

I think Slash mentions how Replacements were on the Texas Jam bill in 1988 in that Robert John documentary. Well, they're not listed on the bill.... Instead the poster lists The Smithereens.

Another small Tommy mention in today's Minneapolis Star Tribune by Jon Bream.

Tommy Stinson's mom and ex-wife were backstage to greet him after Soul Asylum's return Monday to First Avenue, the band's first concert since the death of founding bassist Karl Mueller in June and its first with Stinson on bass.? Other well wishers begged for a copy of the historic night's set list, which began with "Bittersweet."? Stage manager Conrad Sverkerson clutched one with black electrical tape on it.? "This one is for Karl's mom," he said protectively.? Mary Mueller, a U of M librarian, has long kept scrapbooks for Soul Asylum.? While documenting this show no doubt will be difficult, I.W. feels the milestone event indicates that life goes on.

I'm pretty sure Tommy's mom makes it to all the shows in Minnesota, I saw her during his solo show in January.

cool photos, thanks.

Who was it that said that Tommy has a 'Keith Richards' vibe to him?  He's got that inherently cool look.

I just hope it's temporary, because if "General" Tommy Stinson does leave GN'R, well...that doesn't sound good.

Why would that be scary?? Gnr hasn't done anything since he has been in the band.. They just played a few gigs and said they have an album somewhere.. if he leaves will the music stop playing, will axl's crowd stop touring??  in or out there is nothing happening..

I think he means that if Tommy has given up hope of a future with GN'R we're f*cked

I am a fan of gnr and axl rose.. You learn to get into a band when they actually play and do videos also release single.. You don't have to research their side projects and replay a bunch of boots...

I have a accepted the new band and love axl rose but I need them to actually play and release something to care about them individually.. Being a gnr fan has nothing to do with liking anyone in this group really besides axl rose..

there are people that hate scott weiland or only like slash that are into vr.. No one can expect each person that likes someone from the past to enjoy whoever just comes along

Read your previous post well and see if you're making sense.

to actually play and release something, they need to stay in the band and shouldn't leave.

tommy leave gnr, he has been the most optomistic person ever.. it would be the end if members actually gave up hope on something they spent so much time for.. For me personally besides the famous gnr I have no real picture in my mind of this current lineup.. It's not like someone talks to me about gnr and the new names pop up.. So until it starts for REAl anyone to me except axl can come and go..

Well those songs never kept my interest.. it's like the band quickly came and went so I never had  a reason to fall for the individuals.. it's not like the show kept moving on.. I guess if you replay a few things over and over enough it can seem like a band constantly playing..

How long has he been in the band, like since 98? How long can one wait..

My thing was if he left it wouldn't matter to me because new gnr is non existent except if you own the few shows they did..
