i saw Ian at the Door of the 21st Century show and he was a fuckin' rock god man, but before the show, outside they played some Cult film clips and Ians hair is just as huge as any 80's goer hihi

I've been a Cult fan since 1984 and have never ever seen Ian's "hair is just as huge as any 80's goer".  Bandana's, ponytails, straight, spiked, shaved but never "huge"..

Anyway, I digress. ..

Maybe Ian suggested the change for Axl, who knows.  It makes for a good story though..

ah c'mon man maybe it was a little fare, but his hair was pretty big yes

Yes, Axl was very influenced by other peoples style at the time, like anyone.  I suppose he liked different pieces of peoples clothing styles and took them and re-invented them to make them his own!!  ok

Nope, never seen it "big".

I've seen that crazy fucker in many a different look over the years (not all good either) but never any kind of teased out big hair mode ala Axl in the early days...

Im listening to last saturdays Camp Freddy radio with Matt Sorum and Billy Morrison.
and Matt is telling this story about GN'R opening for The Cult in 86 or 87 (he's not sure).
and at this time, Axl was wearing his hair really big.
and he says, supposedly Ian Astbury went into the dressing room and talks to Axl and says something like "you're a really great frontman, but the hair is just all wrong." then he gave Axl a bandanna and told him to put the hair down straight and wrap it around his head.

Matt doesn't know if it's a true story or not, but he says Ian still tells it to this day. Grin
Billy then asks Matt if Axl would remember that, and Matt says "probably not, not back then", whatever that means hihi

HA, I made a comment about this a while ago when someone said Scott was copying Axl.

No, I own the Pure Cult DVD and have all of the videos they released. Ian had straight, Jet black hair down to the small of his back. Maybe the "Love Removal Machine" video where its styled different. But no "Big 80's Hair"

The point being sweetchile is just trying to stir shit up, nothing intellegent by any means..

Ian's always been a bit crazy, he'll be the first to tell you that.? Bandana's nonwithstanding he's also credited with providing the blueprint for Lollapalooza with his Gathering Of The Tribes Festival and coining the term "goth" in relation to the music scene in London..

He was a huge GNR supporter early on as well, insisting the come on tour with The Cult after seeing GNR at the Marquee Club in London in 87'.? He actally mentioned that show last year in an intefview, saying it was one of his favorite concert memories.? I'll see if I can dig up the article.

Falcon I never knew that.  I thought he might have been pissed at Axl because of Matt.

Matt had yet to join The Cult when Ian and Billy hooked up with GNR.? He became a touring member in 89' in support of Sonic Temple and later was the catalyst for The Cult reforming in early 99'.? When Matt was offered the job with GNR he had full blessings of Ian and Billy, they had no plans of using him in the studio at that time.
