Im listening to last saturdays Camp Freddy radio with Matt Sorum and Billy Morrison.
and Matt is telling this story about GN'R opening for The Cult in 86 or 87 (he's not sure).
and at this time, Axl was wearing his hair really big.
and he says, supposedly Ian Astbury went into the dressing room and talks to Axl and says something like "you're a really great frontman, but the hair is just all wrong." then he gave Axl a bandanna and told him to put the hair down straight and wrap it around his head.

Matt doesn't know if it's a true story or not, but he says Ian still tells it to this day. Grin
Billy then asks Matt if Axl would remember that, and Matt says "probably not, not back then", whatever that means hihi

Cool story!  ok

I think there's a huge span of time that Axl can't remember things.  Tongue

Since he liked Aerosmith so much, I would have thought that he got the bandana idea from STeven...

I remember seeing some The Cult video once were Ian was definitely sporting a bandana & walking with his microphone like Axl would later be doing in the WTJ video. I immediately noticed a similarity between the two. There's certainly nothing wrong with having influences & listening to good advice if this story is true.

I guess I don't remeber anyone saying Ian Astbury invented the bandana. Is there a point to your post?

Then, Who invented the Bandana? Huh

I've heard this before....Do they tell you what the Japanese for "Worlds End" is? and how to make a pint of snake bite? If so,  Falcon posted the link for the radio a few days ago. It's fun.  I hope you can still hear it.

I think the singer from the Eagles used a bandana as well.
Blaming Axl for using a bandana is like blaming Slash for using double guitars like Jimmy Page from Zeppelin did.  ok

Where on earth did anyone here blame axl for wearing a bandana? Tons of performers have worn bandanas, so what exactly is your point?

non of us dickheads are gonna figure out who made the bandana, its been around for fuckin' years man Roll Eyes,

i saw Ian at the Door of the 21st Century show and he was a fuckin' rock god man, but before the show, outside they played some Cult film clips and Ians hair is just as huge as any 80's goer hihi

Ian may have gave Axl the bandana but it's been around for years!! ok

How the fuck would Matt know what the hell Axl remembers anyway, Axl doesnt need to talk about your fat arse so shut the fuck up Matt!! Angry    even though it wasnt a bad thing you said, but i garentee whatever you say before and after is gonna be a stab at Axl. Roll Eyes

anyone here paranoid on Axl's behalf or something?
I can't remember blaming him for something, and it really didn't sound like Matt tried to blame him for anything on the radio either.

Matt was just telling a story he's heard from Ian Astbury, what the fuck, and he didn't try to make any stabs towards Axl before or after that...Ive heard Matt talk about Axl before on the show, and to me it just sounds like he's telling funny stories about a legend that he's got great respect for.
the other guys are usually like "really?..wow", the same way they respond to cool stories about other legends.
Matt worked with a living legend, and of course, there is plenty of good stories from that time!
he talks about Slash the same way btw. in a funny way, but you can hear what great respect he's got for him too.

I've been a Cult fan since 1984 and have never ever seen Ian's "hair is just as huge as any 80's goer". ?Bandana's, ponytails, straight, spiked, shaved but never "huge"..

Anyway, I digress. ..

Maybe Ian suggested the change for Axl, who knows. ?It makes for a good story though..

Speaking of Axl's big hair, ever saw the 1986 flick "The Labyrinth?" Think of David Bowie's "do" and Axl's in the Welcome to the Jungle video, they look alike ,don't they?

Yes they do look very similar. David Bowie and Axl also had alot of parallels when it came to Axl's escentric wandrome and unpredictable stage presence during the UYI period.
