If theres one thing you can say about uncle Axl is that the man has some pretty decent taste in music.
I refer specifically to his love of Janes Addiction, Faith No More, Soundgarden and NIN - edgy, cutting edge for it's time and IMO timeless in many instances

He also said he thinks 'Limp Bizkit is fun'. Those bands are mainstream bands that everyone says they like.
Seriously. You listen to Soundgarden? Join the club.

I love the fact that at one point
The Four Horsemen
were his favorite band.

well, I wasnt refering to Limp Bizket - I was refering mainly to Janes actually.
Bizkit is perhaps an ?isolated indiscretion
And as far as alot of people liking Soundgarden is concerned, that doesnt minimise the fact that those who do have great taste imo

Jimmy, I agree. I think Soundgarden is one of the best bands ever. I think being labeled as grunge hurt, instead of helped their career. They were clearly not grunge.

Love em as well - their first few albums (Louder than Love, Ultramega OK) defined grunge imo- the sludgy, detuned, drony guitars, anguished vocals etc..
but they certainly broke out of that mould with their last 3 albums, moving into more psychedalic, late- Beatles era territory.
But I would say that their association to grunge enabled them to find a wider audience if nothing else - it's a blessing and a curse that they broke up, a bummer that we have no new Soundgarden albums, but also cool that they bowed out on top - every album they released was a gem, they never released a bad album IMO

Jimmy, you think Louder than Love sounds like grunge? I disagree. Listen to Hands All Over. That is balls to the wall metal. They really went metal with Badmotorfinger, and thats the album that really got them labeled as grunge. God, I love that fucking album. Badmotorfinger is one of the best albums of all time. Anyone who insults Cornell and denies his talents has obviously never heard that album. Back in 88 or 89 Axl talked about how great Cornell was, and I had never heard him. About a year or so later, I heard Soundgarden and truly realized Axl had good taste. LOL!

Axl is much more diverse than that! He also likes Frank Sanatra and Bessie Smith. There are just to many to mention. I would really like to know what he is into now.

Right now, he's probably into Nazareth, Supertramp, Run-DMC, The Bangles, Bulletboys, and Cinderella. In other words, he likes bands that dont release albums.

Just speculating, but I reckon he'd be into Muse - epic sounding, almost Queen like

Run DMC and The Bangles have both put out albums of new material in the past few years.......

Really? I didnt know that. Be sure not to tell Axl about that mythical Bangles album that came out. He might stop "finishing touches" on CD and start spending his time on Bangles message boards!

he's got good taste indeed. Jane's is one of my alltime fav bands, Axl was a fan of them even before they had an album out. they rehearsed next door to GN'R back in the mid 80s.
