The dj on 94.1 here in Madison, WI just said there's a strong rumor out there that Sorum is not coming back even when his wrist heals due to his relationship, or lack thereof, with Weiland. I luv rock n' roll rumors!

I wouldnt be that disappointed if they dropped Sorum to be honest
Ive never been a huge fan of his drumming, Id prefer someone with a bit more groove -

Matt's worked with 2 of the most whacky front men in the business in Ian Astbury and Axl Rose,
I'd think Weiland would be a picnic in comparison..

As Botaxl said, gotta "luv rock n' roll rumors!"...

A radio station made an announcment last year before I saw them that Scott and Slash cancelled the show here in Columbus due to the two not getting along.
So I highly doubt this is true.

although I could care less who is drumming. I always thought Matt was just the same as any other drummer.

Matt is a great drummer but imo opinion he's always held back the slash and duff. The groove they had during Appetite was long gone after they started playing with MAtt. Therefore the chances of having another album as successful as appetite were gone too. Adler's style was simple but it fit in the puzzle

I think people are reading too much into the Entertainment Weekly article where Scott and Matt didn't seem to be getting along-

He was a downfall with GNR considering the man is what drummers call ham-fisted.  He doesn't have any control in my opinion.  He hits the drums hard and doesn't let his kit breathe.  Imagine November Rain if another drummer was behind the kit accenting when and when-not to pulverize the kit.  And He seems like a grade-a prick.  I'm glad Axl called him a former "employee".  I think VR could be a much better band if they had a more"experimental" drummer.  A better drummer makes everyone sound better.

He was a downfall with GNR considering the man is what drummers call ham-fisted.? He doesn't have any control in my opinion.? He hits the drums hard and doesn't let his kit breathe.? I don't think there is any special about Matt.

Other drummers that made an impact:

Neil Pert
Bonzo
Keith Moon
Jim Fox
Ginger Baker

To bad they are either A: dead or B: already busy or old.

I know this won't happen, but my favorite drummer is Eric Kratz from STP.  His work on "Purple" was nothing short of Phenominal.  He would bring out the best in Slash and Duff.

Yeah, Scott doesn't like to have groupies hanging out backstage.

I guess one of things VR will look for in the replacement is the marital status hihi

thats a great way to put it. he doesn't let his kit breathe! take you could be mine & set me free for example. you could be mine should fit right in Appetote but it doesn't because its matt not steven. He needs to let is hit hat swish more. You get a groove that way

This is a band of friends, and most important, of professionals, Matt wouldn't leave the band just because he can't get along with Scott,  that is just another rumour...

How is Adler's playing these days? I'd love Adler to join VR (if he can play that is). Otherwise, maybe Tommy Lee? At anyrate, I think this rumor is BS.

Matt is a great drummer, just not the right one for GnR in my opinion. It would be sort of like John Bonham drumming for the Beatles. Ringo Starr wasn't much of a technical drummer (kind of like Adler), but he had a swing that made the Beatles backbeat. Sourm was a Bonham-type, more on the beat than behind it slightly (a swing groove). Not a good or bad thing, just the way some drummers are. Some lay back, some or right on the beat, and others a hair ahead.

That said I wouldn't mind if they kept Brian Tichy on for awhile, he's a great drummer.

Adler was great for slash & duff, 'cause they couldve played practically anything over adlers classic r&r drumming style.
now with matt, they have to like have the same groov and sometimes slow down a bit...
man, listen to Duff & Steven on Nightrain, perfect.
