The dj on 94.1 here in Madison, WI just said there's a strong rumor out there that Sorum is not coming back even when his wrist heals due to his relationship, or lack thereof, with Weiland. I luv rock n' roll rumors!

Unlikely. Matt is tight with Slash and Duff. He will be back,  for better or for worse. He is not a bad drummer. Maybe a sleaze in real life, but not a bad drummer.
Why on earth would Matt be a sleaze in the real life, you know him!?
Or because he doesn't act like a rock primadona?

He does act like a primadona and he always comes off as sleazy in interviews.

Just like I mentioned.
I still think he is the nicest and most down to earth rock star I met.
Primadonas aren't are usually people who hang around with fans taking pictures and giving autographs while their band mates run from bus to stage,  from changing room to bus and then back to plane.
They are also not kind of people who have a beer and chat with fans at the venue' bar 10 minutes after 2 hour gig while the rest of the band is sitting in the changing room behind 50 security guys till their bus varrives 2 hours later..
However,  perhaps you had a bad experience with him when he had a bad day or something,  I don't know.
Nevertheless,  my oppinion of him and Gilby is extremly high as far as their character is considered.

He was a downfall with GNR considering the man is what drummers call ham-fisted.? He doesn't have any control in my opinion.? He hits the drums hard and doesn't let his kit breathe.? Imagine November Rain if another drummer was behind the kit accenting when and when-not to pulverize the kit.? And He seems like a grade-a prick.? I'm glad Axl called him a former "employee".? I think VR could be a much better band if they had a more"experimental" drummer.? A better drummer makes everyone sound better.

MAtt was actually told by Axl what to play on November Rain, go shove your theory in your snare drum.

A piano that takes up more space on stage than a drum kit ain't 'nontrivial'. peace

People,  I think this is going the wrong direction.
It started with Matt Sorum and wheather or not he is leaving the band.
It is now to people saying they don't like him due to his style.
Firstly,  style is what one does or doesn't like,  you can't say someone is good or bad cause you do or don't like his style.
I must say GNR were definition of the word rock n roll just like Led Zeppelin.
Therefore,  GNR needed a drummer like Matt Sorum who is very close to John Bonham.
Now when you say shit about Matt and his style,  you are running very close to say shit about John Bonham as well.
Which considering Bonham is known to be the biggest drumming icon ever is very - FUNNY!
You can't compare some Brain dude or any other such drummer cause they will never reach Matt,  Binham or Dave Grohl.
To start off,  unlike the three mentioned,  Brain has never played in a major rock act
Secondly,  Brain is not a rock n roll drummer and he is playing in nu metal band which has nothing to due with rock n roll.
Its basically like saying,  Kenny Rogers is better than Slash or Page or Hendrix.
Ridiculous.

Don't you guys see whats happening!? Whos the first one to leave GN'R? Adler, the drummer. Whos gonna be the first one to leave VR? Sorum, the drummer! Eveything that happened to GN'R is playing out the same way in VR! Dun dun daaaaaa...

Coming soon: VR with keyboards and backround singers.. a double album.. a controlling frontman.. a new rythm guitarist...

Coming eventually: Slash and Duff get kicked out. Weiland begins work on Japanese Republic.

 hihi

And on the Matt VS. Steven debate.. Steven is way better for GN'R. Im not sure what Croatia is thinking when he says "You think anyone else could do Coma,  Dead Horse,  Nov.  Rain,  You could be mine,  Pretty tied up or Locomotive better?"

Yeah I do. A drum machine could pull it off better. Personally for me the lowlight of the UYI's have been the drumming. Really boring stuff. The track that I always wish Adler played on was "Garden Of Eden"... cuz Matt's drumming kills that song. And Matt's "amazing" drum solos during the UYI tour?  hihi

Izzy summed it up in a great sentence...

"Adler's drumming made the band; he made a big musical difference. His sense of swing was the push and pull that gave those songs their feel, afterwards, nothing worked."

     - Izzy Stradlin

And im not trying to bash Sorum as a player in VR (cuz hes good for that band) or as a person. Im just judging him purely as a GNR drummer.

And my opinion on the actual thread topic? I think if Matt left VR would be done. Slash and Duff would rather find a new singer then have Matt leave.

In response to the guy that said Sorum hit the drums real hard in November Rain, I agree with ckgent that Sorum was told exactlly what to play.  He has said this several times.  Axl wanted the drums to sound like Elton John's Bennie and the Jets, and it does.....a lot.  Sorum actually said VR is like his first real band because he helps wright the songs and can play what he wants.  I like his drumming a lot on the VR album.  On UYI he played like a puh c.

Exactly my point. Sorum deserves respect. But not for anything he did with the guns.  peace

well  in those "amazing" drum solos from 92 he could also play what he wanted or am i wrong??

I don't think I ever liked or disliked a band or listened to them for that matter because of the drummer.
Wait, that's not true, an old buddy from mine in high school plays drums and a initiallly liked them b/c of him, but thier actually real good, TLV.

If this rumor were to be true, I want Steven Adler as the new VR drummer.  Anyone else would be a disapointment!
