oh please people, Adler could easily play the drums on Contraband. he's a lot more technically efficient now than what he was back in the GN'R days. Im a drummer, so if someone else who's a drummer wants to object to this, then we might have a real argument going. Tongue
but I doubt he will get the gig though, Slash and Duff would probably want him behind the kit, but I can imagine Matt would object to that. he and Steven have never really been on the best of terms, from what Ive heard.

the coolest thing in the world, for me, would be if they got Steven.
but I would LOVE to see either Stephen Perkins or Chad Smith there as well, they are both among my fav drummers of all time! peace

Maybe it will be Taz Bentley (Izzy solo/Duff solo live). He's an awesome drummer

That would be awesome to see Steven play...it may not be that unrealistic.    At least they are going to get a replacement and not cancel the show peace

I sure hope they don't cancel any shows because of this.  I have tickets for Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on August 11th.  I don't think it would be a good idea to put Steven Adler in there.  That would be just perpetuating the whole GnR thing.  A good session drummer would be the best choice, although I could live with Bun E. Carlos, or say.... Tommy Lee!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was his drum tech, I don't know who that is but I'm sure he knows the material better than anyone, &? techs at that level are usually damm fine musicians in their own right.

I have to agree here, I think Steven would be an excellent choice, although not much time to learn all the songs.  A drum tech or someone close to the band that knows the material might be a better choice for them due the time crunch.   As far as perpetuating GNR rumors for a reunion or other issues and comments, aren't we used to that hihi

Drummer extraordinaire Brian Tichy (OZZY OSBOURNE, SLASH'S SNAKEPIT, PRIDE & GLORY) will be playing six (or possibly seven) shows with VELVET REVOLVER beginning August 11. Brian will be filling in for VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum, who suffered a fractured hand as the result of a recent boating accident and will miss the first few shows of their tour.

VELVET REVOLVER w/ Brian Tichy on drums:

Aug. 11 - Mt. Pleasant, MI - Soaring Eagle Resort
Aug. 12 - Columbus, OH - Germain Amphitheater
Aug. 13 - Chicago, IL - Tweeter Center
Aug. 15 - Greenbay, WI - Oneida Bingo Casino
Aug. 17 - Springfield, IL - Illinois State Fair
Aug. 20 - Las Vegas, NV - Aladdin Resort & Casino
Aug. 21 - Tucson, AZ - Valencia Anselmo Amp. *

* It is not presently clear if Tichy or Sorum will play this show

Brian Tichy had previously toured with VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) in 1995 in support of the debut album from Slash's post-GN'R solo band, SLASH'S SNAKEPIT.

Tichy is scheduled to start the next run of BILLY IDOL shows in Canada on August 25. Sorum is currently in physical therapy and plans to resume playing with VELVET REVOLVER on the first date of Ozzfest (August 23 at the Journal Pavilion in Albuquerque, NM).

rock and roll isnt about technic is about playing with your heart and put a lot of feelings in what you do...i just watched the vma88 gig (thanks lucio92) and steven plays...havinf steven out of the band was like when metallica fired dave mustaine back in the day...sure matt plays a lot and i respect that guy a lot and he?s one of my all time bad ass drumers with bonham but steven is the guy that plays with "less is much" thing that made guns big... remember when izzy said that after steven left the groove was gone... i dont think that steven would be good for velvet revolver but at least he will have a chance to show all of us he can really rocks!

And remember what Slash said in the interview fromt  the Live in Tokyo. It was something along the lines of how Matt elevated the band as a whole and made them more than just a glorifed garage band. He also said alder couldn't play the Illusion stuff in a different interview.

Thanks Malcolm,

I was actually thinking of Brian Tichy, he has played on a couple of Gilby's albums as well.

Well do you expect to Slash to say something negative about Matt at the time in GN'R? And Steven having a hard time with the Illusion stuff was cause of the drug situation/opium blockers.

I remember a Slash interview from '94 where he talks shit about Izzy. He always got irritated cause of Izzy's playing and it was never tight, at the same time praising Gilby whereas in 2003 he said that the only guitarists he ever meshed with was Izzy and Dave Wink

exacly, IzzyDutch.
when you read statements people make, you also have to take the circumstances into consideration.
Steven was too wasted to play the Illusion stuff, he could easily have played on the album if he was straight.  and IMO it would have sounded MUCH better with Steven!

No offense to Mr. Tichy but VR is missing out on a great publicity opportunity here.? PUT DUFF ON DRUMS!!!? And make Duff's bass replacement somebody really cool like maybe Flea!? ok

Tichy is a great drummer, better than Matt in my opinion. His drumming on Zakk Wylde's Pride and Glory album was great.

Ok, now do you see anything in common with the substitutions?

Hint: None of them were "key players".

By the way, you forgot how Duff was replaced for a show back in 1988 when he went and got married.
