My thought are that a hell of alot of the fans from the old era GnR were 16 to 25 back then, Now if they have kids and familys and stuff, Are they going to honestly give a shit? or will 70% of the original fanbase be gone? Will the advertising campaign for CD be targeted at the new gen of potential gnr fans?? I just met a dude today who is 42 and i showed him RIR3 dvd. He totally spun out and didnt know anything about it (he was a huge fan back in the day) All he said was "axl packed on some weight hey." other than that id like to see some opinions, WILL MANY OLD SCHOOL GUNNERS CARE???

dustnroses, that's the million dollar question. If the old fans dont come back and buy the album, its not going to sell very many albums. Every person who's ever been into GNR has to buy it the first week for it to be a major media story. They will have a hard time selling it to this new generation that loves Eminem, 50 cent, etc. Going to be interesting to see the marketing campaign of CD.

your right about the million dollar question. I think the music scene has changed so much that a newgnr album will not be able to be successful, I read some stuff recently that said the new album should be treated as an Axl rose side project and not compare it to original guns stuff, I thought about it for a while and agreed. Just the same as VR should not be compared to any previous GnR stuff. Afterall they are "new"

We'll probably never know. Unless of course Chinese Democracy is actually released. Then we'll see for sure.

All I can say is that the new GnR will have a place in my Cd Player and iPod anytime. Im looking forward to hearing what they've slaved over for so long and I will embrace them fully if they ever do see the light of day.  peace

It's hard to say with what "mainstream" is now.  VR is really good for themselves, beit they are not considered mainstream as rock n roll is not the mainstream but still, the rock radio stations and video channels do give them air time and their tour has been extremely successfull so I can see GNR doing equally as well if they would just release the damn album.
