I used to do a little

« on: July 30, 2005, 07:09:43 AM »

I just bought the UYI-cd's.
Since years (1991) i got te cassettes and the 1 LP (UYI2). So don't think i'm not a long time gnr-fan.

One rare thing in the book by the song double talkin jive.

In de cd-book:

lead guitar = izzy
vocals = not mentioned

In de cassette book;

lead guitar = slash
vocals = izzy

there is a fault in one of these books

Who played the electric guitar solo?
The classical solo is played by slash (you can read in the 2 books)

Is this cd-book fault mentioned before here? I don't know.

My guess is Slash playing all solos and Izzy is singing.

that's my guess to.
But why are the books not the same. One of the 2 is wrong
It can be (for one time) that izzy played that solo because there's a special mention about the classical solo played by slash.

There are some faults in the credits. Izzy does not solo on Double Talkin' Jive and he doesn't play guitar on Coma.

It's Izzy who does the solo AND the rythm guitar in this song.

It's the same "vibe" as his solos in Estranged and Back off bitch (Izzy and Slash both do a solo in these songs, and they don't sound the same).

Hell no, Izzy doesn't play any solo in Double Talkin' Jive. Everything is Slash, Izzy can't even play as fast as Slash does in DTJ. It's Slash's tone and not Izzy's. And Izzy only plays the intro solo on Back Off Bitch and on Estranged there are some single notes but you can't really call it a solo.

Which solo does he play in Estranged?

If you listen very carefully with headphones, you can hear Izzy in the left speaker play a few notes at the intro (0:26 seconds) and somewhere in the middle of the song. It's very hard to hear though

That pretty much sums up all of Izzy's guitar work - without awesome speakers and a lot of time its as if he's not even there....

Nah. Listen to his solo on Nightrain. Or his amazing rhythm guitar on Rocket Queen and One In A Million.

so it's slash playing all the lead guitar (electric & classical) and it's izzy doing the rythm guitar & the lead vocals.

Conclusion:
The book in the UYI1 cd is wrong, the book in the UYI1-cassette is right (maybe also the LP)

Yep that's right.

About Izzy's guitar, you can hear Izzy well on AFD and Lies, but on UYI his guitar is basically burried. They did that deliberatly cause they felt that Izzy wasn't enough in the studio and didn't play as much as they wanted. So they deliberatly turned his guitar down in the mix. Izzy said that in the final months of the Illusion tour they turned his guitar down live and he had his amp on 8 or 9 just to keep up with everybody.

I may be mistaken but i do believe it is Izzy who plays the guitar solo on "Double Talkin' Jive" Not the classical guitar solo rather the electric. "DTJ" is a Stradlin song and I respectfully disagree w/those who believe it's Slash who plays the solo. IMO the solo has Izzy's style/vibe all over it.

i'm pretty sure izzy plays the electric solo in DTJ. I've got nothing to back this up with but it sounds more like izzy than slash.

Agreed, Izzy's guitar is non existent on the Illusion albums. Just a personal preference but that was always one reason i thought the Illsuions didn't sound all that great , Izzy's vibe just wasn't there and it hurt the songs IMO.

As for the live shows, your right about Izzy being turned way down, same goes for Gilby you can hardly hear him as well.
