Granted, Shooter could've auditioned without any of us knowing. But I'm more curious about the the news bit, and here's when it starts to get down to semantics. Jennings did the shows in late '02 and early '03. One does require a bad case of cruddy journalism to conclude that doing gigs with the VR lineup (sans Scott) two years back and "standing in for Axl" equals auditioning to be new GNR vocalist!  rofl

On the other hand, we have Ajax Garcia and Ron Thal.

I understand why you might think twice before ruling it out completely, but I think somebody down the line just screwed up.

This is an interview with Jennings from March, 2005.

"However, his country music debut may have been delayed significantly, had he been asked to join one particular LA band that he once auditioned for.

'I sang with all those guys (from Guns 'N Roses)," he says. "It was basically Velvet Revolver. It was before they got Scott Weiland. They were auditioning singers and auditioned another guy and stuff. And then they asked me to do a show with them. I ended up doing a couple of shows with them. They asked me to do them, and it was awesome. It was crazy. I moved to LA because I loved that (Guns 'N Roses) band so much. And I was really excited about being in a rock band. But after I did that thing, I said, 'Well, I think I'm done with rock and roll right now.'"

Great job on the "investigating" sic.  I think you got this one exactly right.

Shooter Jennings has a new album out and it's not too bad.  It's country rock like what Kid Rock has been trying to do.
