Izzy because he was a great songwriter and Slash played some of his best material with him.

Both have fantastic solo albums, Gilby's col parker album was also great.  Try listening to Gilby's original bands Candy and Kill for Thrills they are what you would call real 'poodle' rock records.

Izzy i feel is alittle more diverse in he's writting. Both very cool individuals and probably shouldnt be compared. I will always be grateful for Gilby joining the band if he hadn't The whole GN'R history could have ended.

Fuck wat a question! well i've never really forgiven izzy for leavin the band, but iv never really forgiven gilby for taken his place.

They are both awsum guitar playrs, they can both sing, izzy is a brill song writer but sayin that iv never heard any of gilby's solo work, is it any good?

my heart is still lyin with afd so im gonna say izzy, but like i said iv heard a lot more of izzy's work than gilby's so im probly not the best person to choose.just my opinion.

This is one thing I don't understand, why are people upset when [insert musician's name] joins [insert band name]? People tend to blame the new musician for joining the band, Dave Navaro joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers springs to mind. It's funny because if you want to blame someone, blame the people who hired him.

In Gilby's case, blame Guns 'n Roses because obviously Gilby didn't hire himself. It's pretty obvious that anyone joining the band was going to get blasted.

It's not an issue of whether or not Izzy is better than Gilby, or Paul, or even Richard, they all bring something completely different to the band. It's a question of personal taste.

Gilby is very cool, but, Izzy is Guns N'Roses founder, he wrote AFD, Lies and UYI...

So, Izzy all the way.

Concerning Rolling Stones influences, I can't hear anything as good as Bad Obsesion on a Gilby's record.

I think Gilby is fairly underrated outside of GNR forum world (though maybe Supernova turns that around).  He's kind of like the John Corabi of guitarists.

That said, I have to pick Izzy.  All his solo stuff is really good (and I love the hard hitting "Like a Dog").  Gilby's solo stuff is good too...just not quite as strong.

And, of course, Izzy was so crucial to the GNR material, despite having Slash always in the limelight as lead guitarist.

I think Gilby is very underrated guitarist. IMO he did very good job replacing Izzy, and he fit the band very well. Also his solo stuff is cool; there was some great ideas for the band and you can hear he wrote some of the songs for Gn'R.

And I like how he worked on-stage and communicated with other members. Axl really liked this guy too, their jokes during the '93-tour were funny hihi
