In response to twisteds last message i believe Maynard probably got that from Axl, Axl was a recluse way before Tool was even around.? But i agree it definitly adds to the persona and aura of an Axl rose type i mean lets say velvet revolver wasnt around would we care as much about what was going on with them if they werent doing anything i dont think so but thats just in my opinion.
Axl is more identifiable with GNR than any other member past and present. If VR wasn`t around Slash & Duff would not gather nearly the interest as Axl does.

^^^^^^I don't know if I agree with that statemment about Slash and Duff, it works the same way for Axl. If Axl never returned, did a brief tour and promoted CD, made a surprise appearence that VMA's, I don't think there would be much buzz about him now.

Slash would certainly give him a run for his money, especially given that Slash looks the same (almost) as he did in their heyday

Jimmy, you hit the nail on the head. We might get flamed, but its true. Slash is the most recognizable person from GNR. Slash never left the music scene. Once the GNR machine died in 94, Slash kept going. He did Snakepit, and various other projects. Something he did that I will NEVER forget was at the 1995 VMA's. Do you remember it? Michael Jackson was performing, and Slash came out to play part of 'Black or White'. That was all he was supposed to do, but in a typical GNR move, he decided to steal the show. He started playing a kick ass solo, and Michael Jackson was getting pissed. You can see Jackson yelling at Slash to leave the stage and security guards are motioning him to leave, but Slash keeps playing until he's ready to stop. To me this is one of the best moments in VMA history, but has been forgotten by almost everybody.

Yeah I remember the performance and Slash doing a killer solo, but i dont remember MJ getting pissed or security and shit??? But yeah, he stole the show alright
I also recall a live performance he did with Blackstreet on some awards show and he tore it big time there as well

You dont remember Jackson's response?? He was motioning with his hands for Slash to leave, and you couldn't hear Jackson because of the music, but he clearly yelled,"Get Off!" Slash just stood there blowing the crowd away. It was fucking great! Slash walking on stage was the loudest the audience got that night. It proved there was still major interest in GNR, but certain members of the band just didn't care. This show was the last high profile response to anything GNR until Axl's re-emergence at the 2002 VMA's.

It was all an act. Jackson only pretended to be pissed. The whole thing was supposed to be taken as a joke.

Pandora, are you sure about that? I never heard that version of the story? Did Slash say that, or is that Jackson's interpretation of it? I'm probably wrong. I spent years off and on at the forums, so I could've missed this info about it being an act. Even if it was staged, it was still cool to watch.

I love slash i think he is an amazing guitarist he's right up there with the hendrix & page but lets be realistic whenever we see slash we think of GnR which i do think will eventually lead to the downfall of velvet revolver as this group is basicly GnR with scott weiland in instead of axl and i dont think VR will ever overcome that shadow no matter how much praise or publicity they get. But trying to get back towards the topic i mean any sort of news that comes out about Axl positive or negative would always top anything that slash has or will do. And as far as the 95 performance with MJ that was still coming off the heels of GNR and slash techniclly still in the band so of coarse he was gonna get a large pop but when slash came out on the jackson 5 reunion show they did on VH1 i don think the response was as big i enjoyed seeing him but i dont know if fans were goin crazy cuz slash was there.
