MANDALAY BAY sure got some unexpected publicity last week when it announced that GUNS N' ROSES would be playing the EVENT CENTER on Dec. 28. On the same day the official press release went out around town, hundreds of media outlets all over the country were busily airing video footage of the massive rioting that broke out when the band unexpectedly cancelled a gig in Vancouver. Seems AXL ROSE didn't make his flight to the Nov. 7 kick-off date of the (nine-years-in-the-making) CHINESE DEMOCRACY TOUR. Vancouver fans were unhappy about that, to put it mildly. Police had to subdue the crowds with pepper spray and combat gear. Ah, Axl, will you ever make it down to Paradise City?

When asked whether the riotous crowd and Axl's no-show tendencies worried Mandalay Bay execs, a hotel insider said the concert was "potentially a risk," but that the "name status" of GnR was enough of a reason to put those pesky issues aside.

So will the megaresort stock up on extra security for the December gig, in the aftermath of the Vancouver incident? GORDON ABSHER, director of public relations for Mandalay Bay said, "We don't discuss our security staffing issues, but rest assured that the safety of our employees and guests is always our No. 1 concern."
