Ok, this just arrived in my mail, it includes all the critics for Fantastic 4 from IMDB:

Most critics have concluded that Fantastic Four is something less than fantastic. "Underwhelming," is how Roger Ebert describes the movie in the Chicago Sun-Times. He concludes: "The really good superhero movies, like Superman, Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins, leave Fantastic Four so far behind that the movie should almost be ashamed to show itself in the same theaters." Steven Rea in the Philadelphia Inquirer is harsher, commenting: "Lacking wit, lacking style, and just plain lacking, Fantastic Four offers a series of noisy confrontations, ho-hum special effects, and a post-action-scene mantra repeated ad nauseam: One of the Fantastics, dusting off debris, checks with another and inquires, 'Are you OK?'" Lou Lumenick in the New York Post is harsher still, describing the film as "the smelliest dead-on-arrival would-be franchise since The Hulk. A perfect storm of wooden acting, hackneyed direction, inane scripting and laughably cartoonish special effects." On the other hand A.O. Scott in the New York Times apparently has concluded that all of that was intentional. "In an era when movies based on comic books have become increasingly solemn and serious, this one is content to be trashy," he writes. Stephen Hunter in the Washington Post calls it "a funky, fun film version of the famous Marvel superhero concoction." And Glenn Whipp in the Los Angeles Daily News takes a middle position -- calling it "neither here nor there." So does Geoff Pevere in the Toronto Star, who remarks: "Because 'The So-So Four' would never do for a quartet of weirdly gifted comic-legend superheroes, Fantastic Four is somewhat misnamed. Fantastic it ain't, but not bad it sort of is."

Well, they compare it to the Hulk, which made me think, maybe VR should stop giving their songs to soundtracks, not because their songs make the movie flop, but because of the movie's failure, their songs get lost... D' you know what I mean?

As long as the song and the vid get good air play on the radio stations and the music channels, the song will stay alive beer

VR won't be going down for this one. Thankfully the actors in it will suffer. I would love to bang Jessica Alba, but she has never proved to me she is worthy to be a credible actress. Photos....yes. This movie just looks like shit. Plus all the over advertisement. (they had a special on COMEDY CENTRAL, for fucks sake.)

If anyone knows anything about the Fantastic Four comics then they would know this statement is what the book is all about.  I have heard nothing but good things from people that have went and seen it.  I'm going tomorrow.

I was furious that Set Me Free was on the record. There was no point since it was already released officially. They had so many songs yet they put set me free on there! Sad

Well, it was a whole new production, if you listen to the 2 versions carefully you'll notice the differences. You can't miss them...

While I don't really think any bands ever get hurt by giving music to soundtracks, some have really been helped by being included on certain soundtracks.

Having another song for a crappy movie soundtrack is somewhat frustrating for me as a VR fan. I kinda do feel they've picked bad marketing tools for what I consider to be a great album in Contraband. I don't agree with the singles they've released or the order in which they've been released. I personally would've picked Slither & 2 other songs for Live8 as well. Then, the one good video they make is for my 3rd least favorite song on the album. I guess I just don't feel like they are making proper marketing decisions to maximize their popularity.

'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' - Great song, crap movie.

'You Could Be Mine' - Great song, good movie.

'Sympathy For The Devil' - Great song, crap version, average movie.

Movies are like music, they are subjective

I watched the critics' darling Batman Begins and like some other people on the board, I found it to be a horrible piece of shit movie.

Fantastic Four is getting bad reviews but I watched it and loved it

VRs song comes on 10 minutes into the movie.

Fantastic Four isnt your normal drama type dark action type superhero comic movie.

this movie is humorous and just entertaining.

its not complex like the Spidermans but it is still an entertaining movie.

I guarantee it will gross a shitload also.

bad reviews or not it will make money therefore exposing people to the new VR song.

I think you're makin a biiiig mistake here...

Out of the 4 songs you mentioned, only 2 are being remembered by people as "movie songs".

Noone remembers WTTJ and KOHD as movie songs. Not even the gunners...

However in VR's case we have 2 songs that have been made videos for the movie including scenes from the movies.

Anyway, my point is that now that the band is well known, is that they should make better choices.

WTTJ actually was very well used in that movie with Morgan Freeman taking charge of a ghetto high school. Was it Stand & Deliver maybe? It's also funny to think of the future/past star power 'The Dead Pool' had considering it's not really much to speak of.

You are a bit confused too...

Many songs have been used in movies, this sometimes has nothing to do with the bands... just the management.

I don't really think that if it's a crap movie that the song will be affected all that much by the VR fanbase.    If they don't put it on their next album, granted it could get lost.   If that's the case, they should release it as a single cd.  That way, if you don't buy the movie soundtrack you can at least have the song.  Either way, it's out there and it's getting video play and radio play so hopefully it if someone thinks the movie suck, they won't think the songs sucks too. peace

I'm a fan from the early days, I remember the songs. If other people don't, don't diss us oldies.

And for those who seem a little uncertain, WTTJ was used in a Clint Eastwood film called 'The Dead Pool', and KOHD was used in a Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman film called 'Days Of Thunder'.

Confused about what?

I'm talking about songs that have been used to promote movies, like YOU COULD BE MINE. Not songs that have just been used in movies. These songs can't hurt the band at all.

But if a song is used to promote the movie and the movie flops, that hurts the band a bit...

Their just soundtracks. If anything, it will help a bad movie. Mainly will hurt the band if the song sucks. But Come In is pretty solid.
