The album not being released may have much to do with concerns that if it flops, and becomes a joke, it would eat into healthy sales of the older catalog and forever tarnish the image of the name Guns-n-Roses.  The older catalog's sales are based on reputation, and that of being a raw rock band.  Axl's recent image, although not as bad as some on here think, is not that of a raw rocker but more of a pampered-mid-life crisis-botox-secluded-kid.  The executives are aware of this "backlash" effect upon the older catalog, and might be delaying the release of the album; moreover, it could be in the can permanently as far we know.  In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think the emergence of the greatest hits signaled the end of their efforts to promote or release CD.  That is why Axl fought them tooth and nail.  I sometimes wonder if we have over-analyzed this situation, and yet there is a very simple reason the album has not been released--it simply never developed to a stage quality wise to be released, and Interscope recouped the losses through Greatest Hits.   Or, the album was good, but different enough from the original hits and compounded by Axl's image problems they determined that releasing it may have done more harm to future profits than not releasing it.

thats an interesting way of looking at it and not entirely crazy

however, the old catalogue will sell regardless, it is timeless and has already shown that no matter what happens to GNR in the future, this part of the legacy remains unblemished (except TSI?  rofl)

If the label is afraid of releasing songs like "Madagascar" and "The Blues", then Axl needs a new label, not a new album.

My opinion, I don't think that this album will affect the back catalog in the least.  AFD sells every year no matter what, the greatest hits sold amazingly well.  If anything would have affected the old GNR album sales it would be this, Axl's silence and no new GNR at all, Axl re-emerging no matter how good or bad he is, really can only help that older album sales.  Cause people that may never even heard of Axl Rose may see him and hate him and someone else may say oh but when he was with Old GNR and then that person would then check out the older stuff and vice versa, they may love him and buy all the old stuff.   Just my opinion.

there will not be any weird strategies... gnr is not of general interest anymore besides us die hards. Everybody will try their best for the CD to make decent sales and they will promote whatever they feel necesarry to get their investment back.

huh? Jeez, talk about overspeculating. You have no more evidence of this than some people who come here and claim that CD will revolutionize music.  But I will say this, I doubt very much it is the label holding up the release. From all sources we have heard, this has been in Axl's lap for a long, long time. If you operate on the assumption that the album is bad, you come to contrived conclusions like you have above.

Yea it is a strategy. The ones behind this have been pulling the whool over our eyes for years. Its the same ones that want us to believe that there aren't extraterrestrials living among us. They cover up mistakes like the leaked black goo and the bees. Thank god there are those like Fox Mulder and Scully (and now Minneapolisnewsman), who have seen through the lies, in search of the truth. But the alien conspiracy was only the beginning. This strategy for Chinese Democracy, is a global threat that will effect millions unless the truth is exposed.

lol, that made me laugh Grin
but no, of course it's not a strategy, axl's internal struggles is what's holding this masterpiece back.
geffen wouldn't have poured 13 million dollars into this project if they didn't think axl could deliver a banger.

So this guy is claiming that the album is so bad, the label is burying it out of fear it will hurt the sales of AFD and UYI?

LOL

This could be the ultimate hater's thread. But most likely it is the most contrived and useless.

Nix.

There is only one reason that the album hasn't been completed and his name is Axl Rose.

That's too harsh man. You know there were unexpected things during the whole process too.

Predicting Axl`s strategy is like predicting if the Groundhog will see his shadow in February.

My question is will Axl see his shadow and hide or will he put out the album?

Yeah, chaos and nobody in the band knowing a fucking thing is a brilliant strategy.  It has worked so well for so many other artists.
