Same here. Of course, i wasn't around for their heyday so maybe people have an emotional attachment with their songs or something? It's like they have alot of very average, yet identifiable songs.

Maybe because they mastered the art of the Concept Album.  Plus "Whos Next" is an amazing album.

Sales of 'Contraband' have risen by nearly 1000% since the show. The only other act that day to see a bigger rise in album sales was Pink Floyd. So VR must have done something right. beer

I bought the tour edition of "Contraband" for ?10 at Virgin..... Not because of Live 8 but because of the bonus stuff.  Grin

The Who are to those who grew up the the 60s, what GnR is to those of us who grew up in the 80s and followed them during their hayday.

if GNR toured in 2020 with the orginal lineup....you can bet that some bright spark in the audience will say

'I still dont fully understand why "Guns n Roses" are so legendary to be honest'

When you talk about "The Who" Pete Townshend is a inivator when it comes to guitar playing, Slash has said this himself. Slash has said Pete was way b/f his time, and Duff loves them as well. That band in my opinion was perhaps collectively the most talented band ever, them or Zeppelin.

With regards to VR well that was quite show they put on. Dave was amazing, that's the best I've seen of him yet. And Slash, well he constantly blows me away more and more with each and every performance.

The guys rocked, and it was for a good cause.

Ok 2 points: people on here from the US thinking the 'who' are over-rated need a reality check...perhaps many of you are too young or dont actually own any 'who' albums or only know a few singles that get air play like 'my generation'.  Its not coincidence they were 1 of the last to take the stage...they are hugh and kicked more ass than anyone in the 60s and  70s...luckily some guys on here appreciate them and rank them with LedZep.

Secondly....I now fully realise that its Axl who made GNR what they were.....perhaps VR chose a bad play list but even Slash looked embarrased at the end...Scott is a joke, looked as cool as an asshole...the siren at the end summed it up...take him away in an ambulance, the way the crowd didnt react summed it up...the only act not to cut it. The album may be ok but hey what a crap live performance bar slashs guitar which is wasted with this crew.  Slash needs to be with someone who can sing and can write lyrics, cue AXL.

And you need to stay on the playground with the rest of the little kids. LIVE 8 was dominated by pop bands, mostly british. Did you not get that memo? So no shit, if you read on, some posters who were there said nobody knew VR was even there until they saw Slash. I could have told you a lot of people weren't going to know who VR were. Did you see the Darkness there? Nope, and they are HUGE in the U.K. Scott obviously hurt himself. I saw him move around a lot more at the three shows I've been to. Any which way, VR are the best live band around. Aside from the Darkness. Thats about it.  Que stupidity

Alongf with long awaited Pink Floyd,  by centuries the best act of Live aid 8.
How can an band with people like Slash,  Matt,  Duff and Dave do bad?

Well Electric Image you are missing the point, if VR are the best live act around then things are desperately bad....being the best when theres nothing else around aint a good endorsement...they cant compare with acts like the who in their heyday or GnR or acdc...perhaps you mention 'playground' as thats where you were back in the late 80s when Axl and co showed us what a live act should be like...maybe you should watch some old videos of what rock bands used to be like..have you seen keith moon play..anyway VR live act (slash aside) was poor...hopefully if they get a decent frontman they might just kick ass a little. There were thousands of rockers (non pop afficiandos) at Live 8 and VR never got them going, thats a bad endorsement. We are all entitled to our opinion, GNR rocked live, VR cant cut the big stage....admittedly with some decent lyrics and Scott axed they might have some hope.
