My mate was at donnington. Said VR were stunning at Donnington, and just as good at Live8. The crowds at donnington went mad for them. Proving the point that the Live8 crowd was mainly pop picking chart suckka's

I thought they were really awesome. Everything they added to Slither was perfect.

yeah
very
few people had heard of VR over here. Any casual music fan will definitely not have heard of them, and in my school only about 30 out of 160 listen to "rock" music and will have heard of them, so practically no adults will have heard of them.
I admit they're not the best band ever, but it was an astonishing performance.

Yeah, I'm sure no one was interested in The Who or Paul McCartney or U2 (just the biggest band in the world!)......Slash, Duff, and Matt rocked hard...not a fan of Kushner or Weiland's style but the set was definitely solid. Wonder if Slash has tagged Paris Hilton?

Yeah, i can't imagine why a British crowd would be going nutz for The Who & be a little more reseved for some new band they might only know 1 or 2 songs of. Yeah, VR must just suck & not know anything about rock n' roll.?
we'll have to agree to disagree but the crowd went nuts for the other rock acts on the bill and not VR.
I dont think they have the songs.. It's like Snakepit.
Lazy songwriting...
Bus conductors outfit didnt help either (oi hate you Butler)
Velvet Revolver are at the moment not very commercial and also they are a relativly new band they dont get a lot of airplay the crowd went nuts for the other songs because they were all classics or heavily rotated on MTV. The performance they put in was 110% if that had been a Proper rock concert the crowd would have gone nuts
still not convinced look at the variety of acts and styles on show at LIVE 8 the crowd went mad for snoop which isnt exactly easy listening... VR fell on their arse
Snoop Dogg
got to No.2 in the UK charts with
Signs
w/
Justin Timberlake
and that's the kind of shit that get's heavy rotation and increases his popularity loads, the performance was decent fact is they just aren't as well known or at least their songs aren't they are decent they just aren't knocking out the
GN'R
style classics that everyone knows.

I don't know where the fuck you are from but Snoop Dogg is in Europe right up there with Robbie Williams and Britney and the Black Eyed Peas. He's a fucking popstar. All his singles go straight to the top ten, so do his albums. I mean, yeah you don't like VR but don't fucking go compare them to Snoop Dogg. Snoop is a popstar and has sold many more albums to the mainstream then VR ever will.
I liked the VR performance very much and I'm becoming more and more a fan of Scott and am even looking forward to the new album. He cleaned up his act and is very ready to go kick some arse. I thought Vr's performance was way more enjoyable then the Pink Floyd performance which sucked major ass.....just like the everboring Robbie Williams..

Im not a fan of Robbie Williams in any way but I will admit he put on one of the best performances on the day. The crowd erupted around me
Mariah Carey sucked though, she was only there to promote her new single, look like a cheap hooker, and generally just piss me off

that poll means nothing....everyone over at the VR board voted allot for it......and then they say that VR got lot's of appreciation....and are surprised they top the poll. Kinda makes me laugh. I did like the performance btw, scott sang well for his 'range', Slash played nice, dave seemed into it..... but the crowd was soooooo not. But who gives a shit if they top a poll or not........ They played pretty good, no doubt, but either they or the crowd were a bit out of place. I'll leave that in the middle. ?

Rock music hasn't been in favor in Great Britain in quite some time, especially that of the American variety. Brit bands that have come stateside to find their audience have had a tough time going home as well..
Maybe some Brits on the board can enlighten us on the subject..

I am sure there is a thread on almost every bands message board about the poll and all their fans are over there voting... Glad you liked it though... I love VR but FTP and DIFTK are two of my least favorite of their songs....Slither kicked ass big time though...Scott was doing it all on a sprained ankle too.
EDITED: Wow, I just watched it again and although I would have rathered see different songs, the whole thing kicked ass except Slash's gay biker vest lol....

Tomass, we think alike. Too bad they didn't come out & blaze through STB, Slither & SMF. It has always irked me that for some reason the band really seems to like FTP's & feels obligated to play it at every show, make it a single, etc..... It's the 3rd best slowwy on the album! It's become my november rain, except for it's VR. I think they might of hurt themselves a little with their choice of singles & the order in which they were released, but whatever, they still rock.

The way i see it these days people are obsessed with bands like
Coldplay
and a load of others in the 'indie' scene and besides that interest seems stuck in 'pop' and 'hip/hop & r'n'b'. Rock only seems to get a look-in on rock channels unless they have a commercial appeal which generally means 'catchy' songs e.g.
Bon Jovi
, seems people generally only care about established acts from what i can see new bands that are any good don't get much of a look-in, i know plenty of great bands but they have more of a cult following than anything else....but in an era when a ringtone can be at no.1 for 4 weeks running i really have stopped caring what the general british public think, the reason that was successful was because so much was spent promoting and it was played so often, insiders have said if that much was spent promoting a single with someone making weird animal noises or farting or something that would probably make no.1...so it really does seem people buy what is put in front of them and when it comes to what music is put in front of people rock is way way down the line, not sure if i quite answered you're question i kind of went off track...a bit..

Sales of 'Contraband' have risen by nearly 1000% since the show. The only other act that day to see a bigger rise in album sales was Pink Floyd. So VR must have done something right.

Very insightful, thanks.
As much I've always dug the British music scene I've always thought the press generated the music, not
the music generating the press.
