'Absolutely'

It will probably sell slightly higher than the live era disk, but I don't have much faith that radio will pick it up, perhaps mtv. But I don't think the popular culture really wants to hear a 41 year old screaming. You don't hear that anymore, people just aren't in the right mind set.

I'll be surprized if cd sells 2 million world wide

Holy Shit! I can't believe some of you people. The new album will sell big time when it comes out. There are so many reasons telling us already how big it will be:

1. Radio won't touch the new material? Well, rock radio stations right now still play the hell out of classic GN'R so I'm assuming they would want some new material by the band.
2. Appetite for Destruction still sells over 5,000 copies a week so I think a GN'R album that isn't 16 years old will attract some major attention.
3. Even though some of the shows on the past tour we're only half sold, they still attracted an audience of around 7-8,000 per show average. This is more than some of the big name bands today attract.

Almost everything in the world of GN'R is uncertain, but I have full confidence that Chinese Democracy will be huge!

I thought the UYI albums sold more than that,Matt said in an interview that the reason the toured on UYI for so long, was cauz the albums kept sellin and that axl wanted to break 30 million sales worldwide between them.I dont think they achiveved that but I thought they would of reached over 20 million between them.I know appetite on its own sold over 20-25 million. On the topic though...I think CD will be a slow starter but gradually sell more(in appetite style).Of course there still is a fanbase around the world of a few million, and think about the publicity and tours, videos etc, means more fans. im not expecting multi millions but id say after a our and a single or two,it should hopefully of sold between 5-10 million by then, although that could be a bit ambitious of me.and with the recording process costin an estimated 8 million already,Axl will need to work his butt off.

Why is this thread posted? There  was one that was identical  not more than 2-3 weeks ago. Does anyone remember that extended conversation on the number of copies that may sell? Why are we doing this all over again, so soon? Bottom line: no one knows when the album will be out, if the album will be out, and how many it may sell.

Someone PLEASE lock this thread. It is redundant.

I just hope that album sells over 5 million. Anything short of that will be an embarrasment.

Today, most rock bands are lucky to hit 2 million. That's because all the MTV kiddies are busy buying the new Ja Rule and Sum 41 CDs.

Like I said before, the CD could sell good, with the right promotion. Believe it or not, there are people out there that are younger than 20 and listen to Guns N' Roses.

on the topic of sex, drugs and r'n'r,isnt it meant to be like a visual aid to the unauthorised maximum GN'R?I still havent got my copy of Sex,drugs...yet cauz im totally skint but will be gettin it real soon.By the way,ive been a fan of GN'R for just over 6 years now,and im under 20,thats without a studio album in my fan life time,so I believe CD with or without much publicity(although it obviously will,MTV will have the 1st video on constantly im guessing) they will still get a whole load of new fans, thus puching GN'R to the top again, where they belong.

I just hope that album sells over 5 million. Anything short of that will be an embarrasment.

Sorry but i find that a very lame thing to say.  Yeh we would all like to see it do well, if just to cut axl some slack . But if thats all your sole purpose for the album as a fan. Then thats a bit sad.  Sales dont give an album musical credit, some of the best albums from great artists have never sold in those kind of figures. The "sods law" to this is that real shite music sells loads.  So its a shallow industry thing to concentrate on.

GNR is GNR they have made some of the best albums ever, that is their moment of greatness in musical history.  So aslong as the music is as the "CD" tour t-shirts slogan reads (along the lines of)  "real music with integrity" and Axl does what he should to promote the quality we have heard so far by doing a few interviews and tours, thats all we want so WE can enjoy the hell out of. Fuck everyone else!

The likely hood is GNR will hardly be as they were in terms of sales.  It's not a bad thing - just that this is a different band. They will have to "prove themselves" not to the many hardcore fans, which will see the album do well. But to the "outside" and i think they will do really well.

The music, i truly believe, Will blow everybody away, but you cant judge an artist or record in terms of sales - in that case you are saying that if it does n't sell well, you'll be embarressed. But if it does well you'll gladly gloat .... and you're talking about the same album ?

I think mrfarr is right.  All this talk about sales is really just to pass the time.  If it drops this summer, and it's great, it'll probably sell well.  Deep down inside, I don't think anybody here cares TOO much about if it goes diamond or whatever-- if it's as great as we're all hoping, I'm sure it'll sell just fine.

I'm sure the majority of the people that saw them on tour will buy the album right away, especially with a good single and promotion......... they'll clear 500,000 easily, it's the staying power you need to worry about.

First off a lot of people still care.
They sold out huge markets like nyc and boston etc etc so that is saying a lot.

CD is going to be the kindof album at first only the die hard fans will buy, then if its good, more and more people will buy it, and before you know it it will reach 3-5 million in sales.

As long as the album is good people will buy it.
But to be honest, who cares how much it sells, as long as WE like it.
And the fact is albums dont sell as much as they used it (unless your MNM or a boyband).

Tool is probally the biggest or one of the biggest rock bands out there and their last album only old 1.5 or 2 million.

The same goes for PJ, their last album has not sold that well.

So if they reach 2 or 3 million that is great nowadays.

But people are sick of the mtv bands that have no talent.
I dont get how a shitty band like linken park can sell over 5 million albums.

I hope that non gnr fans give this new album  a chance bc they will be surpised.
And maybe Axl and Co can bring back the guitar solo, something that is lacking in most music today

on the topic of S'D&RNR,I bought it the other day and was dissapointed.Firstly, the dvd played in black and white, but i though, ill watch it anyway.and through out I just realised,it really is just a visual aide to Maximum GN'R but with a few stupid mistakes in ita nd random ppl speaking.the mistake I refer to is "slash got into trouble for urinating on a plane",did he? first I heard of it,was he copying Izzy? and who were the two girls speaking in that room? fans?why are they speaking on it?basically the ppl on it seemed to know less than you and me.I know its unofficial an all but I was actually expecting better.some gd pics though.

I got this DVD a few weeks ago.

To me it looks like a Behind The Music without original music, the band themselves (OK, so Slash, Duff and Izzy do appear but their interview wasn't done for the DVD) or any important people being interviewed.

Among the people interviewed are a tattoo guy and a journalist.

Unless you're a die hard GN'R collector, you might wanna save your money....

I was asked to review it like some other webmasters for GN'R websites. Here's what I wrote:

"This DVD might disappoint a lot of Guns N' Roses die-hard fans and the reason is quite simple:
It's what you get when the word UNNOFICIAL is stamped on the cover!

This documentary features no GN'R songs, or any kind of official footage, because it's just an unnoficial video-biography of Guns N' Roses. Some might remember the unnoficial audio-biography called "Maximum Guns N' Roses", well this is just like that but in video.
If you're a die-hard do yourself a favour, spare some money and don't buy it, because there's nothing here that you don't know already.

But not everything's bad about this documentary.
It features a lot of people back from the old club days, explaining how things went back then, and how the LA club scene worked in the 80's, like the man from Sunset Tatoo who tattoed all of the guys, and some music critics that surprisingly were aware of what's happening nowadays in the GN'R camp, and the potential Axl Rose still has, even when he's not around.

The two most memorable moments from this documentary are how someone says (please note that these aren't the exact quotes):

"Eminem is the new Axl, and he's not inventing anything. 10 years ago Axl was already doing what he's doing now, being polemic writing controversial songs and much more than Eminem will ever be"

"Guns N' Roses would never gotten anywhere if it wasn't for Axl! Let's face it. There are many good musicians but Axl was the THE one without whom there would have been no success to Guns N' Roses."

All in all I have to admit that I enjoyed this DVD very much, because it gave me the notion that not every music critic is against Axl (like most are, and the reason for that "press hates Axl" is probably the difficulty degree there is, just to get some true news and photos of the man). The people interviewed were really well chosen and gave their honest opinion on anything asked.

If you're still finding about Guns N' Roses and about their history, I recommend this DVD, if you're a die-hard, you know it all, and there's nothing new for you in this DVD.

This thing SUCKS.  And I do mean royally.  I bought it, watched it once.

You're essentially spending over an hour listening to a bunch of fucking nobodies yap about GNR.

Axl and Steven Adler are entirely absent from the video.

Slash, Duff, and Izzy appear for literally 30 seconds.  And as Jarmo said, that was from archive footage, not newly shot for the DVD, and there was NO Guns N Roses music in it.

But Lorenzito said, that's what you get when the word "unofficial" is stamped on the cover.  Unofficial releases are pure and utter shit.

Hell, I'm a die hard GNR fan, but this steaming pile isn't worth owning.  I put it on ebay the moment I finished watcing it.

Sorry if this has already been discussed before but I felt the need to warn anyone thinking of purchasing Chrome Dreams' shitty attempt of making a few bucks by crapping together a horrible excuse for a GN'R documentary.  Titled:  "Guns N' Roses: Sex N' Drugs N' Rock N' Roll", this documentary could've been made by a high school multi-media student - even a flunky one. "Chrome Dreams", the company claiming responsibility behind this atrocity put together a couple of photos (showed them over and over), some cheesy footage, and got a handful of know-nothings to tell you the GN'R story in a dozen different ways you already know. There are no exclusive interviews with any of the band members - just some old footage of Slash, Duff, and Izzy shot years ago on the road. Axl is no where to be found other than the photos. And, there is absolutely no Guns N' Roses music any where on the disc. Ultimately, this documentary does nothing for the avid Gunner and looks like a home made movie. Waste of $20.00 for sure. Hopefully, VH-1's "Behind the Music" style documentary will be more worthy of our time than this monstrosity.  Beware!

Best Record Ever Made, Plain and Simple!

« Reply #58 on: June 27, 2005, 01:05:47 AM »

I finally found and bought this DVD.  I must say, it really sucks.  The ppl that are interviewed in it barely knew GNR and are basically just fans or ppl who bumped in to them by accident before they were big.  and on the box it says that there is lots of footage of the band and interview with the band, there is less then 5 min of the same interview with just Slash, Duff n Izzy, and only Slash N Duff  talk.  i was really expecting something good out of this DVD, it is quite frankly the worst DVD on a band i have ever seen.  I would not recomend this DVD to anyone.  lots of the info in it is wrong to.
