I was watching Vh1 classics the other night there was this one vid with this white woman who looked like she was 40 rapping in the early 80's down this street with graffiti on the walls ,out of nowhere this black guy dressed as an indian pops out behind this christmas tree, pretending he's a monster. Also I've seen this one with  this guy in his house at night wearing sunglasses even with the lights off! And I heard this corny ass song called Wang Chung where these guys were in this room like shaking and disappearing, fucking wierd shit . I know, what have I been smoking? rofl hihi

I think that's Blondie.

I like the videos from the early 80s. They're fun to watch, because they're so corny. My favorite is Runaway by Bon Jovi.

I like the older videos...cinderella, stones, cheap trick, iron maiden, judas priest, pretenders, meatloaf...I'd rather see a guitar than a bunch of T&A anyday of the week...but I'm not a guy so there you go... smoking

Meatloaf videos are the worst  rofl

I watched Metal Mania on VH1 classic a few times.  I had never seen the video for Dio's Rock N' Roll Children before  - it had me laughing.  Good old Dio.

But then I saw Alice Cooper's Welcome to my Nightmare, now that's a great fuckin video!

I like the old band videos which were just mainly the bands performing, then everyone seemed to get an imagination and put some thought into videos, thats when they got boring, a few aside of course.

Actually, I think that the current situation is like the opposite that you describe.  When it comes to rock bands, all the music videos are basically of them just playing in some weird setting.  That's all.  I miss rock videos that had stories.

Personally, I love old videos, especially those classic 80s hair metal ones.  Who doesn't love it when some kid is being hassled by his parents or teacher, and Twisted Sister or Motley Crue blasts in to save the day for rock 'n' roll?  They don't make 'em like that anymore.

when you think about it, everything before our era now is corny. In 20 years, the whole hip-hop thing will be looked back at and people will be like "Boy, the 90's and new mellenium sure was corny. They wore pants half-way down thier asses"  hihi

Then again, if this trend continues in 20 years i dont think we'll be wearing pants anymore  Undecided

Back tot he point: Has anyone ever seen Dio videos? It looks like an elf singing a song with really really cheesy 80's special effects, which in essence it really is   Smiley

I mentioned his Rock n' Roll Children video.  But an even funnier one is the one for the song Holy Diver.  It's a medieval scene with Dio walking around in armor and holding a sword.  And there's this cutout of a devil with horns, and a fire lights up from the back - it's great stuff  rofl

Have you ever seen the video for Walk Like an Egyptian by the Bangles?  Old pop music video.  Very cheesy but I like it anyway.  I'll admit to liking a cheesy video if I like the actual song.

The old Maiden ones were cool. I love the Can I Play With Madness vid where the snotty art teacher falls into the pit and sees Eddie in the fridge and Maiden on the old TV.

Oh, and the Coop's Poison vid, where he's on the rack thing and the ghostly woman's crawling all over him!

Those old videos are great.  They are entertaining to watch.  Some can make you laugh, while others are just really cool.  That's when bands didn't take themselves too seriously.  They weren't afraid to make you laugh.  Just watch old Crue videos like Too Young To Fall In Love or Looks That Kill.  They're friggin' hilarious, but they're suuposed to be.  Then watch the video for Wildside, its totally badass with Tommy Lee playing his upside down drumkit.  I wish videos were still like the way they were in the 80's.  I long for the days of Dokken videos with Freddie Kruger in them.

The old Grim Reaper videos are hilarious.  WASP makes me laugh too.  Seeing those videos brings back the memories of when all the girls had big big hair and it was all about partying like a rock star!!

« Reply #18 on: July 01, 2005, 06:42:21 AM »

For the most part, yes, old music videos are corny. No one seemed to notice at the time though, and they have a bit of comedic appeal now. Videos such as ?Whip It?, ?She Blinded Me With Science?, and ?Stranger in My House? are all good for a laugh. But since I?m 22, I grew up with Mase and his dancers.

Edit: I recently heard "Stranger in My House" on the radio, and realized that I was thinking of "Somebody's Watching Me". I'm not sure how I mixed those two up.

I think sometimes when a band focuses too hard on ideas for videos, the music is horrible.

Yeah I hear you , I laughed like crazy. The chick in the video is the main character in the first sequel of "Nightmare on Elm Street." You know whats a weird fucking video, that one by Genesis. damn I forget the song , I used to remember the name ,its of these weird looking people in the video ,they're all like like puppets , their faces look really weird . I think its called something like Into the Night , AHHHH, you people got to help me! I used to have it on tape that was made a while ago, but I had to trash it because the old crappy thing  ruined my vcr.
