Hardcore Holly returning for the fans
By Brett Hoffman
April 26, 2006

In April of this year, WWE.com did an exclusive interview with WWE Superstar Hardcore Holly, who at the time was bedridden and near-death due to a severe staph-infection in his arm. Holly, who has been away from the ring since November 2005, was recently cleared to resume training and prepare for a return to the squared circle. WWE.com caught up with the resilient, hardcore veteran to get his feelings on the long-awaited comeback.

An emotional Holly described what he felt when the doctors finally cleared him for a return.

?I missed it,? explained Holly. ?Being in the ring and wrestling, it?s what I do. I love it and it?s my passion. When they told me I could start training, it was a huge relief. It was a big load off my shoulders because I knew I wasn?t going to be stuck at home anymore. I?m in shape again and close to 100 percent. It?s just a matter of time until I?m back.?

While the future is now much brighter for the fan-favorite, it was a completely different story just a few months ago. As Holly explains, the infection which riddled his arm not only jeopardized his career, but also his life.

?I had an infection called MSRA, which is the worst type of staph infection that you can get. It is strong enough to kill you,? says Holly. ?I was to the point where I felt so sick that I honestly thought I was going to die. At one point, the belief was that even if I survived, they might have to amputate my arm.?

Luckily, a specialized surgery saved his career, his arm, and most importantly his life. Now, with his focus back on his career, Holly wants his fans, and opponents to know that despite the serious medical ordeal he experienced, nothing has changed about ol? Hardcore.

?I?m the same aggressive, tough, S.O.B. that I was the last time you saw me,? said the enthusiastic Superstar. ?There?s nothing different about me. I ain?t no weaker than before, and I?m actually stronger now. When something like this happens to me, it makes me a stronger person. I?m so ready to get in the ring that I could explode. The illness couldn?t soften me up at all.?

Just as he did last time WWE.com caught up with him, Holly wanted to make sure his fans, and his critics, knew that they are the ones fueling his desire to return to the ring.

?They?re the ones that made me who I am. The least I can do is come back for them,? said a serious Holly. ?I got so many emails, so many cards, so many letters. It gives me a lot of motivation because I honestly did not realize that there were that many fans out there that cared like they do. I?ve even had fans that dislike me wish me the best because they want the chance to boo me and hate me again.?

As Hardcore makes his final preparations for this return, he wanted to reiterate one key message to his supporters.

?I just want them to know that I am so grateful for all their concern, thoughts and prayers. I am going to work as hard as possible so they aren?t disappointed when I come back. When I return, I hope that I can entertain them just like before. I owe it to them?and you can underline that?I owe it to my fans to come back because without them, I wouldn?t be where I am today.?

Glad to hear he is all okay. Nasty superbug he picked up there.

Maybe chuck a Hardcore rules match in there and I'm happy.

Remember his quality match with Slyvan last year?

I must say Wrestling has tremendously improved here lately.

SD was actually entertaining although Sylvester Turkay is PURE SHIT. Raw was awesome this week. Great IC title three way match. Great interviews and segments all the way around.  ECW was nice although I would've liked to have seen a Big Show clean victory.

Anyone notice how much smaller Kurt Angle is now? Shocked

I watched Wrestlemania X7 the other day and Angle looked pretty damn big compared to now. I haven't seen any photos from Tuesday yet, but I bet he's even smaller  Undecided

After spending three years combating his personal demons, a refocused and rehabilitated Jeff Hardy is prepared to return to the place where he began his career as a teenager.

WWE.com has learned that WWE officials have rehired former Superstar Jeff Hardy, more than three years after his release from the company. WWE.com has tried to contact Jeff about his rehiring for two days, but in typical fashion of the free-spirited Hardy, he has yet to return any of our calls.

For this unique athlete, it has been a turbulent, arduous road back to WWE. In 2003, just as Hardy began to make his ascent to the top of World Wrestling Entertainment, he came crashing down as a result of a poisonous drug dependency. He was plagued by an addiction to pain killers and methamphetamine (crystal meth), a highly addictive stimulant.

After showing up late for several WWE events and demonstrating a deterioration in his in-ring performance, Hardy?s last match in WWE was on March 24, 2003. In May of that year, Hardy failed a drug test and after refusing to go into drug rehabilitation, he was subsequently fired from WWE.

In 1993, at the age of 16, Jeff and his brother Matt, 19, started working for WWE, wrestling against contracted WWE Superstars. It wasn't until 1998 that the brothers were given full-time WWE deals. That year, the Hardy Boyz almost instantly became top-tier contenders in the WWE Tag Team division.

Both talented risk-takers with dynamic in-ring chemistry, the Hardyz revolutionized sports-entertainment, employing wild aerial maneuvers that did damage to both their opponents and themselves. Capturing both the WWE and WCW Tag Team Championships, the Hardyz made their strongest impact in their epic Tables, Ladders and Chairs Matches with the Dudley Boyz and Edge and Christian.

Shortly after the WWE brand extension in 2002, Matt and Jeff were split apart and Jeff found success as a singles star on RAW. After the split, Hardy began to display his most unorthodox side, adding uniquely colored body paint to his ever-changing hair color.

Perhaps the highlight of his singles career was his Ladder Match with Undertaker for the WWE Championship in July 2002. In a match that no one believed Hardy could win, Jeff brought his abilities to a higher level unlike anyone had ever seen in him before. That night, Jeff did not walk out as WWE Champion, but he earned the respect of not only The Phenom, but of all who watched the contest. People started to acknowledge Hardy?s true talent ? a talent that was curtailed and snuffed out due to his addiction.
Holding a number of championships, Hardy was en route to reaching the summit of his sports-entertainment career until it all came to an abrupt end due to his erratic behavior and drug use.

Overcoming addiction is arguably the greatest victory of Hardy?s life. And as a renewed Jeff Hardy prepares to reintroduce himself to WWE fans, one can only expect Hardy to earn his greatest career victories and even larger triumphs when he makes his long-awaited return home.

Edit: He's a fuck-up, that much is true, but it'll be cool to see him back, hopefully they unite the Hardy Boyz and improve the tag division.....

....hell he could feud with Edge/Lita....there is history there yes

TNA was unbelievable again last night.

The 5 way match for the number 1 contendership for the X divison title was just INSANE.

LAX are awesome.

Homicide's finisher and his partner's finisher called "The Border Toss?" I think is awesome!

The WWE website has just posted a story where they say that Hulk Hogan called Vince McMahon, in an "urgent" phone call, and said that "there?s a possibility that Hogan has a cracked meniscus, which in turn could possibly prevent him from appearing on RAW this Monday night in Memphis, next week?s RAW in Charlottesville and even SummerSlam."  According to the story, Hogan is set to have an MRI to determine the damage to the knee.

That's what ya get for booking pensioners in the main event Tongue

...Seriously though, that sucks!  WWE is really suffering from injuries at the mo, this could be a work though.....

source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Trish Stratus and Stacy Keibler aren't the only long tenured WWE Divas leaving the company. Lita plans on leaving WWE very soon as well.

Lita's WWE contract is expiring in the next month or two and there are currently no negotiations taking place for a new deal. There is no negativity within the company as she isn't missing any shows, nor is she refusing to do anything on television.

Lita is looking to get into acting, although not necessarily at the big-time level like several other of her wrestling peers. Lita's had several strong years financially (usually in the $450,000 range), not to mention that she's never lived extravagantly and thus she can go a long time without having any financial issues.

Also, the company would welcome her back with open arms should she ever decide to return. Internally, the feeling regarding her potential return to the company is good. There is a good chance that she will return to WWE sometime down the line, although she's expected to be gone for quite some time.

If true it'll be interesting to see where Edge's character goes once she's gone.....

You guys should check out this interview with TNA's Scott Steiner  hihi

As part two begins, James hypes the upcoming features at WorldWrestlingInsanity.com, including daily audios, Radio Free Insanity archives with all 34 shows available, a chat room, fan Q&A audios, and much more. After that, he talks a bit about the career of Scotty Steiner from the days of the Steiner brothers to when he morphed into Big Poppa Pump. Guttman warns that this interview is ?not safe for work? and then he welcomes Scott to the show.

James opens the interview by asking Steiner about the Frankensteiner and the reaction he got the first time he used it. Scott says people couldn?t believe it the first time he did it, especially because he was 250 pounds. People hadn?t seen many of their moves done by people their size before. He says the first time they did it in Japan was in the Toyko Dome. Steiner says that Cruiserweights do it now and call it the ?hurricanrana? but he was the first to toss his opponents into the ropes and hit it.

James says that people forget how big guys can do these moves. Nowadays, kids who are 150 pounds do moves like that and big guys are looked at as ?muscle men.? Big Poppa Pump says that it would be easier for him if he weighed 150 pounds. That?s why people were amazed.

JG and Scott then discuss his transition from All American to Big Poppa Pump and how he found out he was turning.

Guttman turns talk to Steiner?s post WCW sit-out and asks if he was ever contacted about coming into WWE while his contract was still active with Turner. Scotty says that they had wanted him at WrestleMania to team with Steve Austin against the Outsiders. He said ?no? though because the ?money wasn?t right.? Steiner says he wasn?t going to go just so he could say he wrestled at WrestleMania.

JG asks about Scott?s entrance into WWE as a baby face despite having a character that was tailored to being a heel (a subject and time period talked about at length in Guttman?s book ?World Wrestling Insanity?). Scotty says that right off the bat it was ?bulls***? because he was never a baby face as Big Poppa Pump. They brought him in as a baby face and then put his first televised match in WWE on pay-per-view. Scott calls it ?bulls***? and then says that Triple H is a ?piece of s***.? He says he was sabotaged on purpose because he and other guys like Nash were from WCW. Steiner says that WCW beat WWE 82 weeks in a row consecutively. WWE must have taken it personally because they buried all the guys who were in WCW during that time frame. He adds, ?But they paid me, so who?s dumb??

James asks how much of his match with Triple H was sabotage. Guttman questions Scott on whether he feels Hunter wanted to have a good match with him at all. Steiner responds ?No I don?t.? He puts some blame on his own shoulders because of his foot injury, but says he could still have wrestled. He just had to slow down. Steiner says he didn?t take it personally because Kevin Nash ?is supposedly his best friend and he beat him the same way.?

BPP says ?Triple H is an insecure guy. He?s never done anything athletic. He was never an athlete in his life. He played high school sports. Come on. Him, Ric Flair, and Shawn Michaels are the same way. No more athletes and this is their athletic platform to be the best. They gotta be the three biggest pussies ever to win the World Title.?

Scotty then turns his attention to Ric Flair and his book. He says that Flair claimed to play Minnesota football, but really was just a guy who hung around athletes. He says he found out from Bill Goldberg because his brother was there at the time Flair was. Scott then tells a story about how when he worked for Dick the Bruiser and was heading to the NWA, Dick told him, ?When you get down there, you drop your bags. You tell Ric to pick them up and start carrying them for you.? Scotty says he was green at the time and was actually going to do it. Luckily Bulldog Don Kent told him, ?No, no. That?s just a rib. Don?t do that.?

Guttman brings up the Monday Nitro, crooked teeth, Flair promo. He asks what Ric?s reaction was and Steiner says that afterwards, ?He went in a room and cried. He?s a pussy, man. If people could see these guys behind the curtain, they?d be amazed.?

James asks about Scott?s issues with Shawn Michaels. Steiner replies:

?I look at him and his career. He comes out in chaps - black leather chaps, dancing like a faggot little Chippendale and poses for a fag magazine - Playgirl. Come on. He?s a joke?Rock didn?t? even want to wrestle him at WrestleMania. A lot of people don?t like Shawn Michaels. He?s a cocky little bastard, you know.?

Steiner then tells a story about the Harris Brothers making Shawn cry. Scott says he couldn?t believe he cried after being so cocky.

JG then brings up the new klique of Hunter, Flair, Michael, and the McMahon family. He asks how Scott dealt with it in his last run. He responds:

?Hunter is the male version of a blonde bitch going to Hollywood and f*****? her way up to the top. He?s basically the Kevin Federline of professional wrestling. If it wasn?t for who he was married to or who he was skeezin? all over her face, he wouldn?t be in this business. Look where he started. He actually started in WCW as Terra Ryzin?. Then he was doing 30 second jobs for the Ultimate Warrior. All of a sudden he starts banging the boss?s daughter and he?s supposed to be the baddest man on the planet? Come on. It?s a joke.?

That was an interesting read to say the least. I dont see why he's moaning though. Everyone knows these wrestlers aren't the same off camera. Thats not really a revelation. I'm sure he's not the same either. He sounds very jealous of their success.

His comments about Flair are blasphemy. rant

He's always been bit of a prick backstage reportedly. Back in the WCW days he deviated from the script and pummelled agents backstage if things didn't go his way.

Fact is, his WWE run was a complete shambles due to the fact he returned from his foot injury too early. He was pretty immobile at times in the ring and looked completed knackered in matches that ran over 10 minutes. Had he jumped ship in 2000 or something perhaps he could have been a major player but I guess we will never know.

Steiner is a prime example of how too many 'roids make a good wrestler bad.

You see him back in his tag days with his bro, the franksteiner looked awesome, so much better than a hurracanrana, it came out of nowhere and the victim landed on their headed.

His promo's can be good but have a habit of going into Flair country in the incoherent department.....

And he calls HBK a fag for his gimmick, this coming from the Big Bad Booty Daddy Roll Eyes
