It is quite obvious that during a backstage segment of said kind the purpose of the camera is to provide a 'window' for the audience to see what is going on, without this window several storylines would not work as all backstage segments would have to be conducted as interviews or 'challenge' segments (where superstars talk to their opponents 'through' the camera as if they are talking straight to them). The camera in this instance is technically invisible hence why superstars in these segmen ts are oblvious to it. The content of some of these segments may from time to time be a bit far-fetch or indeed downright ridiculous but they are feasible. For example let's say Bishoff is in his office and Ransy Orton comes in and asks him for a title shot.... this is a private meeting nobody else knows it is going on (occasionally holes may appear in production where someone else refers to this meeting even though they weren't there although these are mistakes of a different matter), however in order for the meeting to serve any purpose to the show the audience need to know it has happened for future reference and so that Randy Orton doesn't have to go down to the ring later and say 'Earlier I went into Eric Bishoff's office and asked for a title shot' because he just wouldn't say that.

Izzy- you made a comment that the WWE of today is far inferior to that of 1998/99 so therefore I assume you include all segments of this sort in your reckoning even though to my knowledge at least as many or maybe even more segments of this sort were featured.

Arron - nice to see someone with a wee bit of posiitivity around here - you are aware that Dwayne doesn't work for Vince anymore and Brock has filed a lawsuit.

As for your last line - AMEN!

No and No...suprised at both, as i thought Brock was in talks to come back around the Royal Rumble because he failed at American footy?

Why the hell would he fire a lawsuit?

hahahaha very funny hihi

lets get some early predictions shall we?

Cena over JBL
HHH over Batista due to something crazy and historic *cant have HHH lose 2 wrestlemania's in a row, plus its obvious batista will win, so i look for a swerve even though batista deserves it.
HBK over angle
UT over orton ( i cant see them letting UT's streak end, thats askin alot to me
if batista wins the title maybe Kane winning the ladder match, batista vs kane could be interesting, ill say edge though probably will get it.
i dont get smackdown anymore so i have no idea who is fighting over there

trish over christy hemme, surely they wont let her beat a real wrestler like trish

what matches have i forgot?

I said it was a problem then..and its a problem now, back then there were other things to take your mind off it (like fueds Cry), it helped to ''disguise it'' when it happened.

Mania predictions

HHH beats Batista
Cena beats JBL - this is a cert!
Angle beats HBK
Taker beats Orton
Big show over Akebono
Hmm..the ladder match....toughie, i'll go with Edge
Eddie beats Rey Mysterio
Paul London over Chavo
Trish over that other 'thing'

Sorry Arron to clear up the situation with Rock and Brock...

Lesnar contacted WWE laste last year to see if he could return on a special low dates-high wage deal, the kind of which are reserved only for veteran part time performers such as HBK, Flair and undertaker and which Bill Goldberg was on during his stint with the company, WWE rightly saw this idea as laughable and told him to come back when he is going to be serious. Since then Brock has filed a lawsuit against the company over a 7 year no compete clause he signed when he left that stops him wrestling for anybody else until 2010, Brock feels this LEGALLY BINDING contract which HE SIGNED when he left to pursue his NFL dream is unfair, he obviously has no leg to stand on and when this has all blown over no doubt he will be back because wwe needs lesnar and Lesnar needs wwe because he leads a high cost life and the money is gonna run out and lets face they all always come back!

As for Dwayne well he claims that WWE just stopped calling him and when his contract ran out december/january it wasn't renewed. For the record WWE and Dwayne Johnson have joint ownership of 'The Rock' name. Again he'll no doubt be back when he decides that Mr. Nanny 2 isn't exactly where he wants to go.

Another big name not currently scheduald for mania is Mick Foley - rumours long persisted that Foley would face real life nemesis Ric Flair on the big night but this never came to be. I still fully expect Foley to turn up maybe even unadvertised, maybe even to make it a hat trick of special referee jobs at mania?!?!?

well guys judging by Arron's calendar we still have plenty of time for foley to challenge flair, i think it could be cool.

mysterio vs guerrero will be nice

what started that feud?

and why has eddie fallen off the world title scene?

my cable company axed UPN a few months ago and i no longer get Smackdown where i live which sucks so i have no idea whats goin on.

what the fuck is up with a sumo match?

As per BPD earlier post...to keep SHOW away from the decent talent and add a bit of variety and probably a rest for the crowd...they normally need a few at Mania...

Nearly forgot you bunch of bastards....yes D that includes you as well!(PS get the fuck posting on the UFC thread...raise the awareness!)

UFC is wonderful but i haven't seen it in at least 12 months, back when i was watching i remember a guy called Tito Ortiz being outstanding it was great stuff, and i recommend it to everyone [can't be arsed using the UFC thread]

Anyway back to wrestling, maybe i missed it but it seems nobody mentioned the returns of Marty Jannety & Jake 'The Snake' RobertsMarty was in great shape, and although 45 showed he can still go i would love to have him back on a permanent basis, i never thought i would see The Rockers back together, but it happened, and it was a great to see a veteran return that can actually still wrestle; Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan take note.  As for Jake Roberts, he and WWE obviously realise he is in no shape to wrestle but hell they used him well.  He sounded great on the mic and i think he did a good job of helping get Randy Orton 'over' again, still i wished i'd seen a DDT nobody does them anywhere near as well.

If they keep Marty Jannety around he could be on RAW and;

Fight HBK in a Ladder match.
Challenge HHH for the title, finally a new contender
Feud w/ Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit etc. all matches would be amazing

Or he could goto Smackdown and;
Team w/ or fight Rob Van Dam
Fight for the US Title, give it some meaning
Tangle w/ Angle again

There are so many possibilities he should be kept around!!!

At 45 i think he's had his day.....

WWE don't need new talent - they just need to change the way their existing lot fight - they desperately need to increase the pace of the matches, they are ridiculously slow affairs. They also need to encourage wrestlers to tone down the punches and kicks and use moves, and a variety of them at that.

I've not seen him but I hear he looked incredibly good although I agree Jannety won't be challenging Triple H any time soon! He could be used in some capacity but not as a top draw. As for the pace of the matches, most of the best WWE matches of the past several years have been slower more deliberate matches where a story is told. Although I think some matches could be quicker and a better use of the cruiserweights would make some variety. But at the end of the day it's about pacing not a particular pace.

Ok i went a bit crazy w/ suggesting he challenge for the title, but he should definately be used.  Ignore the fact he's 45 age doesn't matter it's ability, and he still has loads.

I agree. WWE is tasteless crap with more money than sense. Being, by far, the richest and largest company is wrestling you thought they would be able to see and hire real talent. Who evers idea it was to sign Hiedenreich, Snitsky etc should be fired. Also, they should fire all the hoes.

WWE gives wrestling a bad name.

WWE gives wrestling a bad name.

All those signings i'm pretty sure were Vince's idea and he's unlikely to fire himself.  He is well known for liking the big guys who can't wrestle and also has the idea more women mean more 'male' viewers....if i want to see attractive women i'll watch a porn film i watch wrestling for...errr.....wrestling.  I think the product he presents is what he wants to see not what the fans want to see, half the time i think he runs the company for his own entertainment.  I've noticed aswell WWE when business is down always has a tendancy to get big men.  Recent additions include Snitsky, Heidenreich, Vis [again].  In the past Diesel [Kevin Nash] was pushed and given the title, he also holds the record for being the company's lowest drawing champion of all time maybe someone should make a note of that.  When Hulkamania died the strap was put on Yokozuna another crap big man rather than Bret Hart though that was down to Hulk Hogan saying Hart wasn't yet ready.  Mark Henry & Big Show have been given so many chances, at the moment Big Show is probably the best he's ever been.....he stills sucks though, but can be carried to good matches better than some.  As for Mark Henry he's never been over, never had a good match and should just be fired but word has it when he returns from injury he is going to come back on Smackdown getting yet another push....God save us.  Don't get me wrong though big men are needed, you need characters to convey monsters, Kane, Undertaker & Batista have all done that well and over the years their in-ring performances have improved.  Another big man JBL is poor in the ring but has always had an ability to get over with the fans.  Ok Justin 'Hawk' Bradshaw & Bradshaw did suck but the APA were very popular at one point and were involved in some very funny backstage skits and i love the JBL character, he reminds me of many of the old school heels.  So at the end of the day i would say yes big men are needed but they needed to be in the minority and only the ones who have good gimmicks should be kept, the failures should be ditched rather than repacked over and over.....although if that always happened we would of never of got Kane remember he was the Fake Diesel & Dr. Isaac Yankem before he made it as Kane.  As for the Diva's if you can't wrestle you should not be employed, unless you're a damn good manager.........fuck bring back Bull Nakano & Alundra Blaze!!!

Jannetty just turned 43 on 2/3/05
Not that it matters that much but according to this link he's 45 http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0417816/

Edit: The following contains SPOILERS from www.backstagewrestling.com if you don't like them stop reading...now!

Marty Janetty has signed with WWE and will be working with Shawn Michaels on house shows following WrestleMania. The two will once again team to form The Rockers. We'll keep you posted on where this will lead on WWE TV.

The Shane Twins are expected to debut on RAW following WrestleMania. There are also plans for Garrison Cade to be brought over to SmackDown!. Frankie Kazarian may also be called up to the main roster, presumably SmackDown!.

During WrestleMania 21, there will be a commercial featuring Steve Austin in a movie spoof of "Gladiator". Austin plays the role of Russell Crowe with the punch line of the commercial being "Tonight Stone Cold raises hell."

There is still talk of Hulk Hogan vs. Hassan at 'Mania this year, thus the weekly promo's by Hassan about not getting a WrestleMania title shot. There is also talk that when Steve Austin returns, he'll likely do at least one more match and that could be against Hassan as well.

A momentous WWE event just got even bigger. World Wrestling Entertainment? announced today that movie superstar Sylvester Stallone will be on hand to induct legendary WWE Superstar Hulk Hogan into the WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday night, April 2, 2005.Stallone, best known for his portrayals of iconic roles in the series of Rocky and Rambo motion pictures, is currently the co-host of the NBC hit reality series, The Contender (Sunday, 8 p.m. ET) Stallone first met Hogan when he cast him in the memorable role of "Thunderlips" in Rocky III.

Marty Jannetty was superb!!! So he's in his mid 40's, does anyone know how old HHH, Taker, HBK and Benoit are?

Of the matches I can remember right now I'm picking:

HHH (I hate the way he always has the title but I think he'll keep it anyway)
Cena
HBK
Taker
Trish
Edge (unsure really, WWE might be pissed at the whole like Lita thing but I think he'l win it anyway)

Finally someone who recognises his greatness........good on you........can't wait for RAW live tonight word has it Warlord is gonna be there [old school fans will remember him] don't have a clue why...should be interesting.? As for the ages, i think HBK is 39, HHH 37, Taker 42 [im doing this all off memory] and considering how long Benoit has been around he has to be over 35 at least i think.? Like i said though fuck age it's about ability and in-ring skills and Jannetty should he still has more then over 50% of the RAW roster probably more.? Can't believe we're doing 'Mania predictions now depending on how the storylines go in the next 2 weeks anything could happen i'll save my predictions until the day before.

Edit: Benoit is 38 in May
