My aspirations are also acting.  And if I had your attitude of "it's never gonna happen", I wouldn't have already appeared in three feature films and made numerous connections and opportunities, which grow every day.

I'm not going to mention the titles of them here.  Not because they were bad, but because I don't want people here watching them and picking me out.  I'll just say that they've all been released to theaters (two of them had limited theatrical release, and one had major worldwide release), and one of the independent ones is getting its video release soon.

And (to tease you a bit more) I'll also say that one of them, I had a scene with Sarah Michelle Gellar.  I'm not going to lie and tell you we're best friends or anything (she didn't really notice me), but I was in a scene with her in the mainstream movie I did.

It's given me some more opportunities, not many more though.  I'm slowly working my way up.  Hopefully soon "Dizzy" will become a household name.  

I don't yet have an agent though I did negotiate with an agent last summer.  I have currently found the opportunities are much greater in low-budget independent films, rather than immediately going after the big starring roles.  So that's what I've been focusing on, and slowly ascending the ladder.

Yes, actors work long hours.  On the second film I did, an ultra low-budget indie, we shot the entire thing in a meager 9 days.  We worked pretty mcuh 15-16 hour days for that period.

And I also want to clarify something: I am not currently making a living off acting.  It's a statistic that only 1% of actors actually make a living off of it.  Yes, that means all the stars you see on TV only comprise 1% of the acting community.  But it's still my dream to earn a living off it, and the opportunities increase slightly every day for me.  But until then, I have to make a living working shit jobs like everyone else.

Oh yeah, and I was not Scooby Doo, nor was in I that movie.  And I didn't get to touch her tits.

I'm not sure LA is the best place for acting really..From what i've been told of it in europe, seems like New York is a far better place, especially for people who swap between theatre and TV work ?

Over 70% of LA is apparently aspiring " something" and the other 30% are in ghettos, extremely poor, so poor that they way under the national rates of poverty.

As Diz said, there is 1% of people who live off it and these ones are crazy enough to buy some house for god knows how much.

The rest do waitressing jobs, nannying jobs, secreterial work or even get inside the skin of mikey mouse for the festive seasons and summer...How rewarding..

Diz, i don't know how old you are, but don't stay into low budget after 35, you may not get another chance to go higher up. Plus, i don't know if you disagree, but personally, i'd never piss on tv work.

No it still does, and yes, I've considered moving there.  The Sarah Michelle Gellar movie I did was filmed in New York City, and I love it there, I spent an extensive amount of time there, chasing auditions.  So did as associate of mine who works for the Virginia based production company with whom I am now involved.

But much as I love NYC and would love to experience L.A. and Hollywood, I am avoiding those places right now.  The audition lines are a mile long in L.A. and Hollywood.  I have a lot more opportunity in the level that I am right now, believe it or not.  Doing low-budget films which help me slowly gain valuable insider contacts.  The list of celebrities I've met is actually very lengthy, including one Academy Award winner (the legendary Mickey Rooney), and two Academy Award nominees, Linda Blair and Brad Dourif.  I've also met Alice Cooper.

The problem is, everyone wants to "make it big" right off the bat without starting small first.  If you look at all the top stars, they all paid their dues in much the same way I did, they started small and worked their way up.  That's what I am doing now, and it's beginning to look brighter than it did when I started.

Another problem is that people have the huge misconception that the movie business = immediate big $$$.  How wrong they are.  Only the select few major stars get paid tons of cash.  People like me do it as a labor of love.  If you want fast cash, get your ass to law school and become a defense lawyer.

L.A. and Hollywood are where all the big stars film their movies.  Aspiring actors and actresses have about a snowball's chance in hell of making it there.  NYC is a better bet for theatrical actors/actresses and possibly TV work, but if you're looking to get into movies, I'd advise looking up your local independent circuits.  Some major stars get their starts there, including Sissy Spacek, who lives very close to me.

Spacek's goddaughter produced and starred in the last film I was in.  One night, on the filming night of a crucial exterior scene (I was in it!), there was a huge snowstorm, and Sissy Spacek actually called her goddaughter on our set to check on us.  I was standing right next to her when she took the call.

Plenty of other actors got their starts in low-budget indie films.  Anybody heard of a 1981 slasher film called He Knows You're Alone?  It starred Tom Hanks, in his film debut.  And let's not forget Kevin Bacon was the young guy who had sex and then got an arrow rammed through his neck in the original Friday the 13th.  Jennifer Aniston was in Leprechaun.  Johnny Depp was in the original Nightmare on Elm Street.  Sharon Stone was in Deadly Blessing in 1981.  The list goes on and on.

Yeah, same for NYC.  In any given hour, you'll walk past literally tens of thousands of aspiring actors, actresses, and/or members of some band without even realizing it.

Me either.  TV work is very grueling, longer hours, rigorous schedule.  But it is much more steady than film work.

To date, my only major TV appearance was on The Osbournes.  During the second season, some clips from the 2002 Ozzfest were shown, and I was visible in the crowd in one of them.
