Well I had a bad experience buying a Kid ROck album, is not similar but it was bad...

I thought the History of Rock (Kid Rocks album) had good metal on it... but it sucks... its a crap!!!

How many times do you check liner notes before you buy cd's? And how do you go about doing that anyway besides looking at someone else's copy...when you could just listen to it then.  Don't try to school people about things on the internet...it makes you look like an asshole.

I thought Axl performed with him live for the awards show performance, not that he was ever going to be on Tom Petty's album.  I never heard that back then.

But looking back on this performance, it was false advertising. 'I wont back down' was the single that Tom was using to promote the album. By having Axl perform Free Fallin, a song that wasn't a single yet, made people think that Axl was on the album. And I guarantee it helped album sales. Most people at awards shows perform a song that is a single/video. So Axl and Tom should have performed 'I wont back down'. But by singing a yet to be released single, people thought Axl was on the album. It was around this same time that Axl was on Don Henley's album, so it wasn't far fetched to think Axl would also be on this album as well. I'm not dissing Tom Petty. I love alot of his music. I just think it was a shitty marketing gimmick. Let's say there's an awards show tommorow. At this show Axl performs a duet with Mick Jagger. The Mick Jagger single is released the day after the duet is performed. But there's no info about who appears on it. Wouldn't you buy it out of curiosity?

If you're buying an album just because an artist you like appears on one song then you probably shouldn't be buying it.  If you're a Tom Petty fan then it doesn't matter cause you got a really good album for your money whether Axl appeared on it or not.  If you can't stand Tom Petty and you're just buying it cause Axl might be on one song then its probably not worth your investment.

I am about 99% certain that Axl did it because Erin loved the song. I think I read this in a Petty interview at the time. Axl called up Petty when he found out he was performing and ask him if he could join because his girlfriend/wife(?) really liked it. ps easily one of my favorite Axl performances of all time, when Petty points to Axl and? says "and all the bad boys? are standing in the shadows and the good girls are home with broken hearts" then Axl smiles, it was a classic moment for us Axlites.

I didn't know Erin liked so much though. I've always thought they performed Free Falling because it suited Axl lyrically. "and I'm a bad boy...cause i don't even miss her...". Axl was the bad boy of rock then, that song just felt right. The performance, the Axl screams, the Axl-moves, the lyrics...

I can see what you are saying because Free Falling wasn't the single,  me myself never thought that but still considering Tom Petty did have Stevie Nicks with Stop Dragging my Heart around, I could see people thinking that about Axl performing with him.

No, I've read this entire thread already...even your posts.  Doesn't seem like there was some big scam going on.  You get weird groupings of artists at those award shows all the time.  If you were unsure you should have done a better job checking if Axl was on it or not.  I'm sure the pairing probably helped album sales somewhat, but that's due more to the fact that people were seeing Axl perform with Tom Petty and Axl was pretty much god at that point.  It also probably got a lot of younger people who might not've know much about Tom Petty into his music.  But to think Axl was on the album is just jumping to a conclusion without any real evidence.  Maybe you're the one who should be looking for stuff that's easier to understand?

Yes, Rob, you see; the point is that jameslofton29 is some sort of paranoid lunatic, I believe. It seems that every time he's made a mistaken assumption or misunderstood a simple store-deposit policy it was actually not his fault, but the result of an industry-wide "scam" designed to dupe poor, misguided fools out of their hard earned cash. On top of which, he's being denied CD because Axl is waiting for him to figure out the magical release code.
