The Rocket Queen tat is very hard to find on a clear shot. Here's the best I could find (check the same pic as in my post above for the entire shot):

WTF?

Axel Rose - well-known rock and roll artist with the group "Guns and Roses". Axel Rose is believed to have served in the 2-32 Armor at Ayers Kaserne, Kirchgoens, Germany in the early 1980's.  Mr. Rose has a prominent tattoo on his forearm of the 32d Armor Regiment Crest which is highly noticeable in photos of the entertainer. We have only been able acquire a few second hand accounts of Axel's service, anyone who would have more information, we would appreciate it being passed on.

We know Axl was in L.A from 1982 (according to Tracii's story)...has anyone heard about this before??

Yes in an off hand way. This is a question Duff, Slash, Steve, or Izzy COULD answer, how about you MYSTERON want to take a crack at it, I would be very interested in where this trail leads us.

Cool info about the tatoo. I highly doubt the rumour about Axl serving for the armored divisions is true.

This is going to appear to a dumb question to most of you, but I have to inquire about it.  Last year I was talking to a Captain in my Army unit and he said that he gave Slash a ride around 1987-88 after he was left behind at a small gig.  He says that Slash told him that Axl was in the Army as a Mechanic and stationed somewhere in Germany.  This story became even more confusing when a Sergeant of mine said he met people who were mechanics with Bill Bailey in the early 80s.  I've been looking for a year now tring to find any information to suggest this, but everything I've read says that he dropped out of high school, dicked around for a while and went to LA to hook up with Izzy.  Izzy did graduate from High School but Axl didn't and they both would have been around 20 when Hollywood Rose was formed in 1982.  This does leave about a 2 year window where Axl could have been in the Army and Axl does have an Army Unit tattoo on his left shoulder that is a unit based in Germany.  If anyone has ever heard anything similar or has evidence to the contrary, please provide it.

Guns ...  yes

Good hypothesis. Although, the press would know it first. He could be 18-22 then. Isn't the army consisted of mercenaries in America? I mean America doesn't have an obliging  national service, right?

Although, we have seen a few pictures of Axl from 1983 (Rapidfire shots) and he has pretty long hair. Wouldn't he have to shave it in order to join the army? How could his hair grow that fast so quickly?

Hmm......

Sorry to disappoint you, but to join any branch of the United States' military is completely voluntary.  Yes, recruitment's a little tougher right now, but post-9/11 it spiked up.  Personally, I have to think the polls are showing waning support for the Iraq war here in the U.S.  Mercenaries, I think not.   rofl  They're probably too expensive.  Smiley

I like this topic.  I didn't know Axl had a military tattoo.  I'd love to learn the real story behind his 18th to 20th year...I don't think there's any possible way Axl was in the military.  He probably just liked the tattoo.
