I plan on getting the CD this weekend. Tribune reviewer said all the songs are great and Jack is finally coming into his own as a writer. I love the single they have released and I'm looking forward to listening to the whole CD!!!

White Stripes are tits IMO anyway!

I really enjoy this new album.  The best album I've purchased in a long time.  There are only 2 songs out of 13 that I regulary skip over.  I'm digging the hell out of Martyr for My Love for You and Icky Thump in particular.  Great stuff!!!

I think the White Stripes is definitely one of the best rock bands of the past decade, and Icky Thump is possibly their best release. They write killer riffs and grooves, the only negative I think is that their sound is a bit tiresome in the long run. A band that is great, but not fantastic.

I think Robert Plant disapproves of them because he feels Led Zep's sound sometimes is "invaded", which is fair enough.

So thumbs up for White Stripes, and please stop thinking about Jack White in terms of "guitarist", cause that's not what he's about. Kurt Cobain also keeps figuring on top guitarist-polls for some reason.

I think Jack White is definitely "about" guitar.  Its nothing like Kurt Cobain where he just played sloppily (most of the time, i love Kurt though).  I think Jack White definitely takes pride in being a guitarist, and he's a really original and inventive one at that.

I'm seeing them this September.  If i told you guys i wasn't excited, i'd be lying.

The White Stripes announce they're breaking up
(AP) ? 1 hour ago

NEW YORK (AP) ? The White Stripes are done.

The groundbreaking rock duo announced Wednesday they are splitting up and "will make no further new recordings or perform live."

Jack White and Meg White say there are a "myriad of reasons" for the breakup, but the main reason is to "preserve what is beautiful and special about the band."

The last recording by the White Stripes was the live album "Under the Great White Northern Lights," released last year.

Over the years, Jack White has focused attention on other projects, including the bands the Dead Weather and the Raconteurs, as well as his Nashville, Tenn.-based Third Man Records.

That sucks, they're one of the few bands I never got to see live.
