I heard the story on 98.9 the Rock (Kansas City) of how when Axl heard her cover of SCOM, he personally called and chastised her.  He said called her a "stupid bitch" and told her she should be embarrassed of herself.

Did this make print/do you have a link?

i've never heard about this, but my admiration for axl would grow even greater if he did in fact do that. she fucking butchered that song. atleast when gn'r cover songs they do them credit.

Never heard of such extreme comments either. Sounds doubtful to say the least.

I think its doubt especially since at Rio after playing SCOM in Crowes Set she said, Axl is back, Axl is back. And after her set at the VMAs she walked by axl and smiled at him.

I definitely never heard that one before, but it brought a smile to my face for some reason. That certainly was a pointless cover other than Sheryl Crow padding her already huge bank account. Were Axl & Sheryl already acquaintences from the sessions they both did w/ Don Henley? Or did they just sing on different songs recorded on different days? For some reason I thought they WERE friendly with one another.

I don't think Sheryl covering Guns is pointless. In that way Guns making Spaghetti was pointless too. It could be, but it's something they wanted to do for themselves, regardless if they could make money by that.
It's not that good cover for me though. Nevertheless, I can have some new ideas playing SCOM in my acoustic guitar.
I believe there must have been a cooperation or something. Sheryl's version seems to me more familiar with SCOM 98 one than original SCOM. You can notice that from the extro screaming too.
According to what Dave said, she must be a devoted fan.

Edit: Woody that was very funny ok

Besides the all out butchering of SFTD, I'd have to agree...

EDIT: I never heard any anti Crow comments..

That still doesn't change the fact that it was a terrible cover.

Uh, yeah it was.  It's a terrible cover.  You take out Slash's guitar and Axl's singing and that song just plain sucks.  Since when does a grammy make anything respectable?

If you take out Axl`s singing and Slash`s guitar in the gnr version it`s still a great song imo, but in sheryls version there`s something new from her style which makes the cover bad.

What?

Johnny Dare said said that shit whenever Big Daddy came out (late 90's).  Plus, he reiterated the story when I talked to him at the Velvet Revolver show in KCK just last year.

Trust me, the story is legitimate.  Axl Rose called her personal number and let her have it.  Big Boss, Gigger , Mysteron, Jarmo, someone back me up.

And then who could possibly have told  the dj about the "personal call"? Sheryl, or?
