I am one who really likes some of VR's stuff, but this is better than any of it. Weiland's voice was fantastic. So much deeper than most any of his previous work. The lyrics are so different than anything he's wrote, so far away from abstract metaphors. Very country.

Heh, and quite the outfit.

Probably from his second solo album...........he's been working on it for a long time, but kept pushing it back.  I hope it finally sees the light of day.....I was kinda shook by the song last night at first but after a few listenings I got into it.  Very neat.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

that was an incredible performance. In the Vein of STP's "Atlanta"

this is the plead I made to Scott at the VR board hopefully he reads it!....
that was unbelievable! reminds me of atlanta. hopefully he sings in his deeper superhuman voice more on the next record like old scott. mix it up a bit more Scott! don't just sing high-pitched because you are in a Rn'R band, its not your strength! Your strength lies in within "silvergun superman"

Stepped out of the pouring rain,
Left out on the evening train,
I was just a little boy,
Thinking bout the memories of the father that you used to be.
San Jose it's a sun-drenched town,
Your old truck with the windows rolled down,
Jerry Jeff ridin' high on the radio,
I want to know why you had to go.

Took a plane to California, yeah, end of summer 1970's,
Tellin you that your the man that taught me how to sing...
Why did you go?
And leave me so young...so young...so young...

Tell me things that I want to know,
Now I'm a man with a family of my own,
Why'd you go and leave me in the cold,
With the face in the mirror of the man I didn't know.
In the desert where the warm wind blows,
Where'd you go while I was so alone,
Those California nights can be so cold,
I want to know the man I didn't know.

Now I'm the one with the radio song,
A wife and kids to tell me what's wrong,
I need the man in my life who made me who I am,
I don't want to lose you again...

Took a plane to California, yeah, end of summer 1970's,
Tellin you that your the man who taught me how to sing...
Why did you go?
And leave me so young...so long...so young...

Beautiful? yes

This tune outshines any song from Contraband - with the execption probably of You got no right.

This makes me wonder...Carlson says "world premiere"...Does this mean that he's recorded a solo album soon to be released? why would he go to the Carlson Daily show to perform one single song if he had no album to back it up? Why haven't we heard about this song before?

I really liked this song as well.  I don't agree that it's better than any VR tune, it's different.  IMO it sounds like a country/rock ballad.   We may see this as an official release in the future or possibly an entire album from Scott.  Good for him peace

That sounded pretty cool, the performance was very heartfelt, like Weiland is reaching out to his father.

It makes me wonder why Scott couldn't have done this song with VR backing him though?

because VR is a big name. they can't just put together a new song without any production first, its one thing to plau it live for the fans and another to play it on national tv

the part at 1:25 where he sings:

Tell me things that I want to know,
Now I'm a man with a family of my own,
Why'd you go and leave me in the cold,
With the face in the mirror of the man I didn't know.
In the desert where the warm wind blows,

The Chorus I guess is fuckin beautiful! Scott is amazing! luckily I really got into STP a year before Velvet Revolver otherwise I would problably be inexplicably skeptical like the Scott bashers are

I don't know, maybe I would like that song if it were a studio version, since that's my true test of songs. Weiland's cool & all, he just doesn't have that unique/great of a voice. He's like a weak Layne Stayle or something.

I tried getting into them in 1993-94, what's your point?

Well I'm not talking about you Jarmo. You miight be an exception but the people who call STP a Grunge band without listening to the songs other than the singles and realizing that they are as rock as the beatles, stones, doors, aerosmith and the Deleos are amazing songwriters

I know, but the thing is, I don't think people dislike STP because of that genre thing.

I certainly don't, I just never got into them. Always preferred other bands that I found more interesting.....

You also have to remember that STP never was a big thing over here in Europe. So some might not understand why you put them in the same sentence as those legendary groups.

I'm not putting them up there with those bands I'm just saying those bands influenced STP tremendously.  STP is not in the top 10 Rn'R bands of all time but they're in the top 30 and when you consider all the bands out there top 30 is very good. Good enough to at least give STP a chance.
