Has Axl Rose been exposed??

But honestly, Axl is the one who wanted to take GNR in a radically different direction. Not just Evolution but to follow bands like pearl Jam and NIN. This ostracized the rest of the band and eventually forced the rest of the guys out. Slash and Duff and even Izzy have repeatedly said they are waiting to see what what so important that Axl had to command leadership and force there influence out.


So it's been 8 yrs since Duff left, and roughly 13 yrs of time for Axl to be writing music since the Illusions. He has had Millions of dollars, the best musical and production talent available, and Zilch, Zero....nothing.

Has he been exposed??...round 1....TKO....

Has Axl been exposed as a man with a louder mouth and bigger ego than he could back up??  I imagine that 99% of GNR fans  when realising that back in 96 or so when Axl faxed MTV and promised a new GNR album in 97....that if those fans knew that in 2005 that he still hadnt delivered that Axl had been exposed. Is this correct or does he still have any chance of redemption?

Did Axl throw away the original GNR unnecessarily? Could the original guys have created an awesome few albums with Axl in the last 10 yrs if Axl kept his ego in check??



I for one backed Axl's 'vision' to the hilt as I thought the idea of classic GNR with more grungy elements and the best electronica would be amazing....he just appears to have not had the talent or the balls to pull it off, and shoulda realised his place as a singer and not a genious.

After hearing I.R.S, maddy, blues and CD, I think Axl is gonna deliver a mind blowing album.
Nobody cares about Contraband anymore, I played it alot the first week and then put it away for good.

I truly belive in Axl and the new Guns and I think Axls talent alone is enough to make GnR huge again.
The way he took control over GNR was pretty shitty and I think Axl has done many mistakes over the years but CD will be amazing I am sure.

Discobiscuit, one of the best posts i've ever read. I wish more GNR fans would speak the truth and not just lap up Axl's lies like they are the gospel truth. Not only is Axl quickly heading towards irrelevancy, I think he's getting closer to the point of a fan backlash. And when the hardcore start dropping like flies from the fan forums,etc., he is in BIG trouble. Well, Axl isn't in big trouble, his record company is. Because they will have wasted millions of dollars for no reason at all. Axl needs to release something, an EP at least, if he wants to keep his core fanbase standing behind him. The blind can only lead the blind for so long, At some point, you fall off the cliff.

First off Axl had to take over because slash and duff were always too drunk or high to get anything done. Slash was so wasted during the taping of the song since I dont have you, they had to use another part of the song to add to the part he forgot to record, that is why Axl said, yep we're fucked.

Round 1 TKO? HUH. How is that a TKO? Axl started to write this album with this band in about 98/99 its only been about six years. ?Look at how long it takes Trent to make an album or how long it has taken Oasis to make a new album, or Tool.

Axl is a perfectionsit, PLUS like he has stated before has been working on three albums not just one.

The reason the album never came out in 1996 is because slash and duff left. That is a huge reason it never came out.

You look at guns n n roses from AFD to UYIs, those albums are totally different, just like CD will be from the UYI and AFD.
Its called progression, Axl wanted to while Slash and Duff did not.

Also, Slash and Duff claimed they wanted to make another AFD yet in VR they just made a STP album.

I still dont understand why people still complain this album is not out or Axl has failed blah blah blah.
Axl said at the VMAs the album wont be out anytime soon. ?Just live your life and listen to other bands, the album will be out when its out. The few songs were have ?heard are really great and those are not even the big guns.

So want to make ?your assumption that he has been exposed until after you hear the whole album.
But of coarse if the album is great, the bashers will still say, well if anyone worked on an album for 6 years it would be good.

Let's stop worrying. ?Axl will deliver... I was 100% confident of Velvet Revolver, and they delivered what I hoped for... and I am 100% confident of Axl... he will deliver. ?But for now... stop slagging old members, then debating over Axl, wether he will or will not succeed... there's no point.

Set me free is not even close to madagascar, CD, oh my god, the blues, irs or even riyadh. 
The point is Contraband is much closer to being a STP album than an AFD type album.
Set me free is  a terrible song. If Axl wrote it the same people that think its great for VR would say it sucks for VR.

You cannot tell me with a straight fact that set me free comes even close to madagascar.
Just take the lyrics and solos for instant. Its not even close.

you are right, i love GnR, but screw Axl, he did throw it all in the toilet because his ego mattered more than the band, people dont like to hear it because they dream of this great chinese democracy, and yes it may come out someday, and i will buy it, but it is still not guns n roses, only the name is the same, they dont even play the same style of music, they dont have a guitar player who can even try to play blues like slash and izzy, this style of guitar was the foundation of GnR, not metal !

No way a puffy guy who conceits himself a genius would spend many years to complete November Rain.
I don't think he could acquire that varied voice without hell of everyday training.

IMO He is all the way diligent in his work and not sparing of himself to attain his ballsy goal.

As for madagascar, there is so much going on in that song its not even funny, it also has a very LZ like feel to it.

Wow, you come here often enough and you are bound to read something so incredibly asinine, it deserves a response.

first of all, it's called a drum machine (or drum loop), not a hip hop beat. If you don't care for it, that's fine, but please don't refer to it erroneously as you have. Trent Reznor, Tool, and many others rock bands have used these effects in their songs. They are not strictly 'hip hop'; your comments makes an implication that axl has sold out to hip hop which is utterly false.

Set Me Free is not an AFD type song. It's a quick, soundtrack calibre rocker with not much edge to it. It's catchy but not memorable with none of the distinctive coarse vocals, LA Sunset Strip ghetto style lyrics and Jungle esque slash rips that made AFD legendary. In fact, tt is a fairly pedestrian song, could be a filler on UYI, but I value  Anything Goes and Out Ta Get Me, hell even Right Next Door to Hell, more than SMF. I am not ripping on the song, but I wasn't impressed with it as a high calibre VR track. Certainly it doesn't hold water when compared to anything on that classic album.

If you look at the lyrics to the whole contraband CD, All the songs are like that, 4line 1st vs., chorus, 4line 2nd vs., chorus , repeat , repeat,------------Scott did not seem to try very hard on the lyrics, kind of dissapointing, i say we kick him out and put Josh Todd back in, much better chance at making an Appetite for Destruction style record....
