no, Izzy was never supposed to be in the band. he just jammed and wrote songs with them for a while, and Dave was already in the band at that time.

Izzy's a friend of the band.  But I agree that he probably doesn't care too much for the album.  It doesn't sound anything like the stuff Izzy's done.  It doesn't have that pure rock n' roll sound, and that's what Izzy's all about.  Also Izzy could right better lyrics in his sleep than Scott Weiland.

I wouldn't be so sure. I wouldn't use Contraband as the basis in judging Scott as a lyricist.

Izzy is a great songwriter though no doubt

Because it sounded "too GN'R".

Do you honestly think Weiland would sing Izzy's lyrics?

Not sure what to say, aren't we agreeing?

The band didn't think the lyrics were 'right' and thought Weilands were better, be that for whatever reason

Thanks for dissecting my post dude.  Anyway, Izzy's stuff sounds much more like GN'R than Contraband does.  The pure rock n' roll sound I'm refering to is that Aerosmith, Stones, Zeppelin, GN'R type sound.  And I think the reason they didn't use any of Izzy's stuff on Contraband is they didn't want it to sound too much like GN'R.  And Scott Weiland definitely has an ego.  The guy flipped shit when he saw that Axl banner in the crowd at that one VR show.  I think he's pretty insecure about the whole band situation...the whole always being compared to Axl thing.  So go ahead Izzy and dissect this one too.  Unless you really are Izzy what makes your opinions any more valid than mine?

Scott wasn't into the songs Izzy wrote because they were to classic Stones/GNR sounding and those songs don't suite Scott's voice but I'm sure if Izzy didn't leave the band they would've compromised

I love Izzy but lyrics are not his greatest strength

I'll just post this link to some cool videos, the first one is Izzy singing Mr. Brownstone with Adlers Appetite, Slash and Duff: http://www.kerikelli.com/media.htm

But, personally, I think Izzy is content with his career the way it stands. Didn't he leave Guns cause they were too big? and VR obviously was going for arena acts and aimed big cause they promote themselves as "the only Real Rock'n'Roll band".

I seem to recall reading that Izzy didn't like what he had become while he was in GnR. Why would he do it again.

In his own words, "It's been 14 years of silence, 14 years of pain, 14 years that are gone forever and I'll never have again."

Nah, aside from a few appearances here and there, i don't think we'll see Izzy playing in "big" shows or for "big" bands again.

Yeah, You're right. If he wanted to back on the top he would get on the stage with New York Dolls. He quited GN'R 14 Years ago... only couple times he was on one stage with some big bands as a guest... Aerosmith in 1994, VR in italy or spain or Susan Holmes show, with Snakepit in 95, and opening Hard Rock Hotel in 1995 with Duff, Matt, Diddley and other stars... he just not interested in... that's all... but it's Izzy  Wink
