I think fans are dwindling in large numbers by the day. CD will sell millions, but I think alot of people are really going to move on. This is probably the last year of strong activity at all the GNR forums. People are just getting fed up. This is the most critical year in the CD saga. If another year goes by without CD, alot of people are going to suspect that CD is a hoax. There might even be a major news piece discussing that possibility.

With all the buzz going on around VR, old guns, Axl, IRS, etc. etc.
Shouldn?t there be a lot more talk, media talk, mtv-talk.......
I just get the sad, bad feeling that nobody cares about G&R anymore. I have been my friends laughing stock for at least the last five years. Always supporting the new album. As far as myself is concerned, I was like, ordering new gnr merch, being really supportive. Hoping for an album release, but nothing happened.
I mean, there are hardcore fans, but they are not drastically coming in big numbers. I think it?s time for Axl to release the album, but be on the clear side that it won?t be as big as "Appetite".
There are lots of people that will go nuts when they hear guns n roses is back, unfortanetly gnr won't be back adn it will only be axl.. I know the arenas will sell out, that name carries so much weight..

No album will be as big as Appetite commercially, due to internet downloading and just the industry in general however
Kid Rock and Linkin Park have shifted 12 million copies of one album in less than 5 years - AFD did 15 million in 18 years. Music still sells, in the UK more albums were sold last year than ever before. Piracy is a little scam to disguise the fact that declining sales are the result of terrible musical quality.

Norah Jones has sold
30 million albums
since 2002 (with just 2 albums!). And she is not a "mainstream" artist at all. It's not rap or rn'b or nu metal or pop, she didn't have Videos on MTV with a massive turnover: it's just Jazz-variety. But her record sales are absolutely huge.
- If "Chinese Democracy" is a great album and if the promotion is good, the sales will be massive.
- In 1999/2000, "Americana" (Offspring) sold 14 million copies worldwide. It was a good album, but not fantastic. They just had a huge single ("pretty fly for a white guy"), another big one("why don't you get a job" or something like that), and an average success one (I don't recall the name but the Videoclip was cool). And please, don't tell me that in 2000 the piracy didn't exist. Internet existed and it was the same situation as today with downloads (maybe even worst).

true
i know bon jovi's crush sold over 10 million worldwide in 2 years, so I think u are definitely right Izzy
music doesnt sell cause it sucks these days, i tell u what though, i was at best buy and I had 20 bucks and i was gonna buy either Limp Bizkit's new one or Nine Inch Nails new one
they both were 9.99 a piece so i bought em both
they keep prices that low and I think more people will definitely buy cds.

I think people care about gn'r, people who have an opinion care.
Like i would be very happy if another group such as the rolling stones made another album or if led zeppelin did a show or even fucking metllica or slipknot or the darkness. It's cool to check out what these heavies are up to you know and if the album has something going agains it it makes it even more interesting and intreaguing. which makes the listening experience alot better. BTW Can you imagine putting on CD for the first time and just listen to it all the way through? i get goosebumps thinking about it....
when it comes to sales i think the album(CD) will sell millions no matter what, a new guns n roses record will be shiped to every fucking record store in the world and i think thats enough to have it debut at least within the top 5...
if it's a great record it will continue to sell and it will climb to number one and stay there for a long time.
it the record doesn't go home with most people it will drop out and axl would be left with only the hardcore fans like us thats going to love it anyway. his little click, his own special little fanbase, just like he talked about in the del james interview way back when(some one help me on the details). which would be verry cool i think.
Maybe the record will be hated by all and that it's greatness would first be descovered in a couple hundred years?!:....
The toughts of the tour for CD makes me skared shitless tho, but thats another topic!

People will care more once something is released.
The difference between many of us and other people = we get excited about what may happen, or leaks...Other people don't care about that, but when a song is on the radio, they'll go pick up the album.

I'm sorry to say that but none of my friends (who are big music listeners) care about GN'R anymore. Some of them like VR, some of them not. They think that GN'R broke up and doesn't exist... Some others don't even know that Slash left the band... The few who know some about Axl's Nu-GN'R don't consider it a serious thing. When I told them that besides Axl Dizzy Reed is the only remaining member they started to laugh.
But this joke can change if Axl releases CD and tours behind the album for some months.

Original Guns N' Roses fans are now virtually 30 years old.
You can't have too many new fans without a cd release within the last 12 years.
In adittion, to be an active gn'r fan you need to be an internet user. Not all gn'r fans are internet users.
Nevertheless, it's impressive that even now, new gn'r fans appear. This proves Guns N' Roses music is not outdated.
Thirty years old? they are older then that, when Appetite came out i was 19, so go figure.

Nah... I think we are probably the only people who really CARE about GN'R on a daily basis at this point... which does NOT mean that there are not a TON of GN'R fans out there who wouldn't join the party if Axl would ever get the band going again... they're just not sitting around and wondering whether Josh Freese or Brain is going to appear on track 7 of CD or comparing Axl Rose to Jesus Christ or whatever.... that's all us baby.

I completely relate to being the laughing stock with my friends.
"soooo when is that new guns and roses cd coming out man? Let me guess, in the winter, then next summer, in the next winter, then next summer, again and again? HAHAHA"
Or my favorite
"hey man, I bet democracy will come to China before Chinese Democracy is released"
Or
"so man, do you think if axl dies he will demand a privacy contract be signed, and all the material to be put in his casket to be perfected in the afterlife!?!?"
But, I'll keep on waiting. Till this winter, and next summer, and beyond...

Define "care"?
Does the majority of the music buying public follow Axl's every fart like "we" do? (I'm guilty) Do they create vast conspiracy theories based on the color of the bandana that Axl has tied to the rear view mirror of the car he's apparently selling (again, guilty)? Do they voraciously devour any scrap of info from the bands management (guilty, once again)? The answer is, resoundingly, no. But I think that should be obvious....
But, do you mean "Is there a market for CD and/or GnR material"? I think, by looking at GH's sales, we can infer the answer is a resounding yes. Why? Because it was a MASS MARKET success. It didn't just sell a bunch of copies to the rabid fan base who wanted to update/refresh/fill in their GnR material. It sold VERY well to the mass market, holding very high (and continuing to hold) places on the Billboard charts. Hell, last time I checked...it was STILL in the top 50...a year after it's release. That shows there is demand from the market. So, in that respect...yes, people do care.

I think that post is spot-on.
Let's stop to contemplate, for a second, a world where the entire music-buying public was waiting with baited breath for a particular album by a particular band. It would be downright scary. Most of GNR's millions of albums sold have gone to casual fans, people who will pick up the album if they're hearing it on the radio but otherwise have no interest in which hand Axl picks his nose with. I'd say that GNR has a thriving online fanbase, larger than most of the bands which make up the current billboard top 100, which seems like a very healthy situation to be in.

Yes and what it also shows me is anyone using the gnr name in the title of their band will do great..
