With all the buzz going on around VR, old guns, Axl, IRS, etc. etc.
Shouldn?t there be a lot more talk, media talk, mtv-talk.......

I just get the sad, bad feeling that nobody cares about G&R anymore. I have been my friends laughing stock for at least the last five years. Always supporting the new album. As far as myself is concerned, I was like, ordering new gnr merch, being really supportive. Hoping for an album release, but nothing happened.

I mean, there are hardcore fans, but they are not drastically coming in big numbers. I think it?s time for Axl to release the album, but be on the clear side that it won?t be as big as "Appetite".

No album will be as big as Appetite commercially, due to internet downloading and just the industry in general however

I believe that Chinese Democracy song wise as a whole will be on par if not better than AFD.

commercially it might not do as well *which it wont* it may not have a bunch of top hits, but for me and only me I think its gonna be the best GNR and one of the best albums ever.

Original Guns N' Roses fans are now virtually 30 years old.
You can't have too many new fans without a cd release within the last 12 years.
In adittion, to be an active gn'r fan you need to be an internet user. Not all gn'r fans are internet users.
Nevertheless, it's impressive that even now, new gn'r fans appear. This proves Guns N' Roses music is not outdated.

I don't think the average music fan thinks about it as we do. But to say we are the only ones interested is an under-statement.  I know loads of hardcore GN'R fans who don't use the internet - just not interested in it. 

And when your in pubs and out and about talking to people if they like their music they are aware of the goings on in GNR, even if they think it's all become a bit of a joke - they have an opinion on it all.

I think the GH is a good indication people will buy it even if it's just out of curiosity.

How many people were waiting for AFD? What position did it debut at? 185? And yet it went on to be one of the most popular and influencial albums of the last 20 years. You don't need to have a ready-and-waiting fanbase to become a success, nor do you need to be at #1 in the first week to make an enduring impact, GNR are already proof of that.

I think a lot of people do care, about the nu GNR.
I know loads of people who were very young when GNR started, and are listening to all the old stuff like AFD and UYI.
And 4 kids who are listening to Velvet Revolver, they probably know a few things bout GNR and are looking forward to Chinese Democracy.

The Greatest Hits record sales (Top 10 album selling in 2004, 5 million copies sold worldwide in a year ) shows there is still a (strong) interest in GN'R.
However I think this interest is almost exclusive for the legendary old band and for the old classic songs. It's called nostalgia. In my opinion, 99% of people don't know who "the new GN'R" are, and I think they don't care. They are not atached to them and never will. Axl got the name, the brand name "Guns N' Roses" and that's why CD will sell a lot, but face it, they are not the right guys (exept Axl and Dizzy) to play the old material in people's mind (general public). Maybe it might change when they play their OWN material. They have to proove a lot. Never forget that the large majority of people, when you ask them "Guns N' Roses" answer "Axl and Slash"...

Not the majority. The Guns N' Roses phenomenon arrived later in Europe and in the rest of the world compared to the US, they started to be extremely famous around 1991/92 with the Illusions. The AFD phenomenon was an exclusive American phenomenon. GN'R was unknown in the late 80's in Europe (the Illusions albums are MUCH more popular here even if Appetite sold a lot too). I would say the majority of GN'R fans are 20-25 years old (I'm 23 and I've been a fan since 1991). I even know 18 years old people who are GN'R fans. The GH album brang new fans.

the only way you can spark interest amon non hardcore fans is by releasing the album. The album would not only rejuvenate the troops but it would actually bring in some new fans.

High School aged + in 86/87 means 18 years have past, 18 + 18 = 36. I would venture to say the majority of the people actually purchasing LALS and AFD were 17 - 25 in 87.

Just re-enforces the point that even though GnR have LONG since passed their prime, they still are known and appreciated with virtually nothing positive happening with the band in 10+ years.

I'm sure that whole rnr world care about guns n roses,the last really big rnr band.I don't agree that the most of gnr fans are in 30.On usa tour and in england 2002  on gnr shows we could to aws all genaration since 15-50.
But the most of gnr fans don't know anything about newgnr,but when cd will be realise that will be something different.I'm sure newgnr cd will have agreat commercial success

In at least my community/area I am probably the only one who is devoted to the new GnR lineup like I am. Sure theres legions of fans for the old line up and the old material but i gotta be honest, anyone I talk GnR with anymore thinks Axl is a complete asshole. I remember my music teacher a few months ago told me that I "was the only person he'd encountered in the last 8 years who gave two shits about Axl Rose anymore." Ive played versions of the Blues and Maddy before for casual fans however and the reactions were pretty good. One guy who is a total AFD lover told me Madagascar is really "interesting" primarily because it sounds a complete 180 from the old stuff. Unfortunately he said that Axl sounds like a dying cat in the Rio version of the Blues :hihi:I dont know how we can expect generic music listeners to know a great deal of the new line up when theres nothing outside the failed tour to know. None of the members are household names..but maybe, just maybe will be soon

I don't know man....whilst your right in saying 91/93 was their peak in terms of sales and popularity .  But Their first Kerrang! Cover was a huge boost for them and Appetite is huge all over the world. 

Even though it wasn't number one in the uk it made a deeper impact on music than anything else had for some years.

I dont wanna speak for someone else here...but as I recall, noonespecial is proud of being one of the original fans circa '87.  Hell, her profile indicates she aint no whippersnapper 

As for the original question, sometimes I'm selfish and want newGNR to have the kind of cult status it does now.  And other times I want Axl to be the crown prince of Rock again.
