Hi , in the newest GW mag with Cobain on the cover they are talking about the listening party for the Nirvana album "nevermind" , anyways , during the party Kurt made this remark as retold by Geffen radio-promotions employee John Rosenfelder , who was at the party .. : Kurt had a bottle of Jim beam , and they all took a shot to celebrate. As Kurt put the bottle to his lips, he said, "I'm going to turn into Axl Rose very soon."

Small quip I know but very interesting to me. I'm not sure where Kurt was going with that remark but yet another example of the Nirvana/GNR "thing" .

What I did find VERY strange was before I even read the article I thought to myself "wonder will there be some kinda axl mention?" sure enough there was.

Kurt Cobain was jalous of Axl. That's the way I see all these things. His obsession toward Axl was weird.

I don't think he was jealous of Axl, but he did have a kind of weird fixation with him.  The amount of times he mentioned Axl was just strange.

That little mention of Axl by Kurt probably spoke volumes about Kurt's inability to handle wealth and fame.  Basically, Cobain was against anything that was commercially popular, and at that time Axl was at the top of his game.  I would guess he thought Axl took himself too seriously (let's be honest, can we picture a music video with Cobain stepping out of a mansion and getting into a limo).  It's all kind of ironic, because now it seems that it's Axl who's had some touble dealing with fortune and fame.  I'm just glad he hasn't checked out.

Kurt was into the strip down seattle grunge, my life sucks ass thing, and Axl was a huge superstar with the whole piano orchestra thing running through his lithiumed out brain, they were both fucked up, but Kurt I think really resented Axl, which obviously caused him to say that GnR has no talent, plua that incident that happened backstage between Axl,Courtney and Kurt didnt help matters much. But as for that Im gonna turn into Axl Rose comment, I think it was js a sordid joke because of the infamy of GnR's drinking habits.

Then again it couldve been said out of spite, thats open for argument  peace

yea id say thats right on. Axl and Kurt are complete opposites. but i think in a small way, he wanted to be Axl, or more like him. i think he got so trapped in the "dont be a rock star cause you're in a grunge band" thing that he was afraid to live "the good life" that Axl had, but wanted to do so, in a small way. perhaps making fun of and putting down the biggest rock band at the time made him feel better about himself

bear in mind that this quote was made at the nevermind listening party .. this was before cobain/nirvana/nevermind and smells like teen spirit "blew up" into a huge success.

The irony of Cobain despising everything mainstream while Nirvana grew into one of the biggest bands in the world was always strange to think about.

Thanks for posting that Saul.  ok

What we don't need is another "Nirvana and Kurt sucks" thread in the GN'R section.
