Paul Huge was involved with the band around this time. Matt mentioned Huge yelling at Slash one day, then Huge and Matt later got into an argument over what happened. Slash said Axl wanted GNR to sound more Grunge. Axl mentioned Pearl Jam as how he wanted the influence of the record to sound. Slash said how much he fucking hates Pearl Jam and refused. The argument about the direction lasted about a year, with Slash pointing out Pearl Jams fall from popularity in the mid-90s as reason to NOT sound like Grunge. Slash soon left the band. Izzy seemed to have a rough experience as well, but i only heard about his story one time.

Its from a Slash interview so you can believe what you want. Axl only talks about the Zack Wilde experiment, and how much he enjoyed it.

I completely agree MikkaMakka. Its weird how some people here don't seem to know a damn thing when it comes to the history of GNR. They must be new fans or something. Most people at this site are cool, but some don't seem to know their elbow from their asshole.

When was he into making a techno album? By that I mean something like the things Moby did in the early/mid 90s.



"Oh My God" is not techno. Seems like people label it techno because there are keyboards and loops in the songs.

Techno is not the right word. He wanted to make industrial music like NIN. That's why he invited Finck, Vrenna, Moby, Beven, Critter, Pittman etc.

I think he was obsessed with NIN and wanted to make a similiar record. Classic rock and industrial music can't work at the same time. Achtung baby is not an industrial record, but in my eyes (ears) Zooropa is close to that. But who cares as long as he doesn't release anything?    When Slash left and Axl hired some industrial guys I thought that we would have a great record, not in the style of GN'R though. Silkworms, OMG and Riyadh proved that he wanted to move to a really industrial direction. Even he talked about the 'more agressive electronica' which we'd hear when the 'third' album would come out. He surely had fears that that type of music would be too much for the fans, so his vision was having steps to the record he really wanted to release.

Today nobody knows what will be on the album, so it doesn't matter. Hell, Brain hasn't met Axl in a year!

I know People tend to feel comfortable when they manage to find a name to categorise something that is beyond their understandings, even when they know the naming is quite wrong deep in their hearts.

I believe the word was "electronica" and that was mentioned by Axl, not about CD, but about the elusive third record. I believe this was mentioned in the Kurt Loder interview when Oh My God came out.

Axl said he slowly wanted to tke the old GNR fans into the present, or something...

put a huge fuckin' emphasis on slowly....

Well, i hope GNR will keep the "typical" GNR,  (IRS) gave me som positive feelings... I also hope they will make some really good ArtRock/HeavyMetal music!!
U2 is a 100% unintresting band for me. I dont like theyr music and image at all, i think its kinda "gay"! But anyway! Dont like to compare generes, but lets pray to GOD GNR stil will be on the badboy side of music!

Yes, SW and Riyadh (and OMG) are really industrial influenced songs.
