This is my "theory":
Merck:
W, Axl Rose is not interested in fame, money, popularity or what the New York Times or any other paper for that matter might think of him. His only interest is making the best album he is capable of so that it can have a positive affect in 2005 on people who are enthusiasts of music and interested in Guns N' Roses.
Letter to the NY Times, March 6th, 2005
sp1at: 2005? Really?
Merck: Yes.
Then that was made into a news story...... Just my theory.
/jarmo
That's accurate. Merck was asked again if they're still pushing forward with the intent of releasing the album in 2005, just to see if there's any indication things have changed in the past couple of months.

If Merck says Axl wants to make an album that "has a positive effect in 2005" then he's gonna have to release it in 2005 isn't he?
When we asked Merck if he meant that Axl wanted to make an album that "has a positive effect in 2005" he said that's what he meant when he said it.
Is Merck lying? That's up to you... His track record leads me to believe he's telling the truth... He hasn't lied before... why now?

He hasn't lied before... why now??
"IRS leak never happened"
"Buckethead not out of the band" (then confirmed by another he was indeed out at the time of the denial).
Are these considered lies?
Thought so.....

I hope so! Because it seems logical....

The IRS leak thing was probably a calculated lie yes. Designed by the bands management and Axl to minimise the hunt for the recording.
The Buckethead issue was probably genuine, he was probably just out of the loop.
For what its worth I doubt Merck speaks to Axl regularly. In fact I'll bet that if Brain hasn't seen Axl for a year, Merck never has!

If I remember correctly, he said something like "the GN'R camp didn't leak IRS", which doesn't mean the same at all.

I recall him saying the song never played on the radio. If the song leaked, someone from the gnr camp did it. I seriously doubt someone burglarized Axl's house and only took a demo.

Anyone working at the studio could have stolen it. Engineers are not what I would call part of the GN'R camp.

I think most people would come to the conclusion that an engineer working with Axl is somewhat a part of the "GNR camp" don't you?
But you are kinda reaching.....
Was it an engineer? Do you have inside info to share?

That wouldn't suprise me. I am sure they are trying everything except pulling rabbits out of their ass to try to make Axl hurry up.

I don't have any inside info whatsoever. I'm just speculating.
To me, the "GN'R camp" would be members of the band, the manager and I guess the record company, although that's stretching it a bit already....let's say key employees of the record company.

If 2005 is the year of GnR then Axl better hurry his bad self up since 2005 is nearly half over.
There's always 2006, right?
