I was at the Xcel show in Saint Paul on Thursday, and unfortunatly there were only about 5,000 people at best.? It was only a half house show, and no one was in the upper deck.? The played basically the same set as they did on the club tour before Contraband.? It seemed kind of tired, and the sound was a poor mix, considering the Xcel center is rated as one of the best arenas for acoustics in the country.?

Paper said they had 6000... Tired? Poor mix? Dude they sounded damn good. Take Axls GNR and times it by 10, thats how good they sounded compared to them.

That's interesting, they weren't playing "Superhuman", "Dirty Little Thing", "Wish You Were Here" or "You Got No Right" during the club tour so taht is 4 songs that were different right there . I think they are doing pretty good with the setlists for having a limited ammount of material....

Ticket sales aren't important today. They just happened to be really important in November-December 2002.....

The best tickets are usually available right before the show...just because really good tickets are still available typically doesnt mean that they are not selling well.

Four songs is quite a bit of difference, although anyone who says they have "limited material" is crazy as they have the STP back catalog, GnR back catalog that they have both taken a few tunes from, they have Nirvana, Queen, Aerosmith, and other covers they recorded to play and 13 original songs off of Contraband, not to mention if they really wanted to be dangerous they could play an unreleased song as they have so many of them in waiting.

Exactly, I was really hoping they'd try out some new stuff. Since they're talking about a new album by the end of the year.

If they played anything from the new album before it was released they'd be bootlegged out of existence. Bands can't really do that sort of thing anymore, sadly.
And ticket sales definitely do matter, because if a band is not making money, they will be bankrupt and not be able to afford touring and recording expences anymore.

Jarmo, VR brought more fans to the Palace in Detroit then GNR did. Detroit is one of the most Rock and Roll towns in the world, so that says something.

i thought that there were more there for GNR ( i went to both). VR had that black curtain blocking most of the upper section which made it look more full than it actually was. GNR had no curtain and there were people in the upper back. it was close but i think gnr had more. vr def. had the better show though
