I've read that Duff came up w/ the courus while he was bk in Seatle, bc it was a pretty "tempting" scene w/ drugs and such.  so he wanted to escape seatle bc of all the drugs (thereafter moving to LA)

so it's a longing for a place away from the horrible situation which is reality.
