GNR's greatest hits moved up to 5 this week on the billboard 100s.  It sold 53,000 records.  Last week it was 9.

your a little early there. It ended @ nr. 4 with 69394 sold.

So far the reported numbers are as follows:
UK
1st: 113000

US
1st: 172423
2nd:  90168
3rd:  91052
4th:  69394

Canada
1st:  14800
2nd:  12000

In it's forth week it's holding the second position on the Euro chart.

Oh, and welcome to the videos is still nr.1 on the Norwegian chart, and has been for the last three weeks.

I wonder why GN'R hasn't reached higher than #11 in Japan...I thought that they have the strongest fan base in Japan.
About GH?

If U ask me, I 'd say they're contributing US sales (imports). Cool

Japanese edition is (probably)
CCCD (not being an expert on the argument over this fuckin industry friendly stuff, I?m not going on about it here)
Price of 2490yen (about a triple of US EBay price!)
Same package to a import copy except a sticky badge
with liner notes, and lyrics in English and in Japanese that are hell shitty (unrefined) translations in taste wise all  the way.  Lips Sealed
Even English language haters, if any in GNR fans, would choose the imports.

Still this GH has done very well amongst Japanese domestic pop music. smoking

Yeah, # 8 in Spain. That is quite impressive actually. Spanish chart is usually full of spanish singers, obviously. There's hardly ever a rock band in the top 20. Metallica and maybe Linkin Park have reached the top 10, but Guns, having released nothing in ten years with the execption on Live Era in a country where the biggest selling artist comes from the spanish version of American idol, it's pretty fucking cool.

I read a review of the GH album last week. It was written on the " trendy" friday edition of the biggest selling newspaper in Spain" El P?is" I don't have it with me right now, but the critic gave the album a 4 out of 10. It did mention that if Guns had remained together and released a fucking rocker instead of the illusions albums, GNR would have been the biggest hard rock band in history of music. Also mentioned, if they had spent as much time on recording music as they did on drugs and booze,GNR would've a much bigger catalogue.

I wonder if the Greatest Hits album has affected sales of the other albums?

I'm sure some people have picked up the GH then decided "I want the rest of the tracks from Appetite"
or maybe it made some one who has the whole library on tape to go out and buy the CD's..........

Hopefully Appetite can push itself above Hootie and Alanis, I hate to see that 19 albums have sold better

It could have the opposite affect in the long run.  The average joe may just pick up the Greatest Hits and not bother getting the full CDs.

19 albums have sold better?  How many were debut CDs?

Mark my words...once GH goes gold, then the RIAA may update Gnr's catalog. AFD will probably go to 17-18-19 million. Just a guess.
