Some people just don't know how to ride a bike

« on: March 19, 2005, 11:16:16 PM »

There are a lot of songs these days that when you hear you start to think, wait a minute that sounds like this or that. What songs do you think fall into that category?

Steriogram - Walkie talkie man & Stone temple pilots - big bang baby

-c 'mon now that opening riff sounds might similar apart from a few notes.

Jet - Are you gonna be my girl & Iggy Pop - Lust for life

- i think everyone knows these two. infact i think a lot of jet riffs can be traced back to beatles or Bachman Turner Overdrive songs but only nitpicky people like me do it.

Gwen Stefani - What you waiting for & Weezer - Hashpipe

- the verse parts are so identical that it almost seems deliberate. i dunno maybe it is.

what are some others you know?

Its a very short part, about 2 seconds, but the beginning piano note for Teslas' "Changes" sounds exactly like the beginning note of "November Rain" to me.

a couple songs by those gay teeny pop dudes rip off the Red Hot Chili Peppers "Cant Stop" intro, i cant think of the exact songs but they do.

Ive heard a few songs that rip off Bon Jovi's "Hey God" riff

anyone heard "all or nothing" by O-town?

that intro is used in a country song and a backstreet boy song

This was a tough one to spot because the songs don't ACTUALLY sound alike at all:

The Strokes - Is This It?

The Killers - Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine

The bass line is almost identical for the two songs, for the Strokes song, the bass starts in the second verse.  Sadly, I doubt anyone here listens to either band, so no one will appreciate how difficult this was to spot.

Oh, and someone mentioned this one on here before:

Puddle of Mudd - She Hates Me

Grease - Summer Nights

"Come With Me" is a song that P-Daddy did for the Godzilla soundtrack back in 1998. It samples the guitar riff from Kashmir very heavily. The studio version sucks for the most part but it was performed on Saturday Night Live once with Jimmy Page playing with Puff Diddy and it actually was pretty damn good live.
