Is this Metallica song about Axl?

Has anyone here ever heard the Metallica song'The Memory Remains'? I have always thought James Hetfield was talking about Axl in this song. If you've never heard the song or you're not a metallica fan, go to a search engine and find the lyrics to it and check it out. Very interesting!

Yeah I definitely think the song is about Axl. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned here before.

It has been mentioned before here several times I think. Yeah after going through the lyrics I guess they were talking about Axl. It don't matter though...Axl is still the King.

That's what forum members do if you haven't noticed.  They read into everything because they think that what's going on in their head (GN'R) is going on in the rest of the world, but that's just not true.

Not to break rules here but this entire thread is pretty fucking dumb. MAYBE King nothing might have the smallest inkling to do with axl but that's all I will concede not to mention the song came out in 96' and that album had been recorded since sometime in 95' and axl hadn't been gone too long at that point. The memory remains is way too generic to say it's about anyone and there is no mention of a cigarette holder in the lyrics as someone said earlier. And as far as axl "being down" I could only wish to be so down. The man whether he does anything ever again is a living legend and he has enough money to never have to work again. Even if James did take a shot at him, which if you're gonna say he did in a song is ridiculous, it's not exactly kicking someone while they're down.

Been discussed before, the lyrics don't go really deep IMO, pretty vague, could be about any "faded glory" person, or about faded glory in general.

As far as I know, Axl once mentioned Metallica as an earlier influence (Fade To Black etc.) and never dissed them.

Lars from Metallica appears to have a weak spot for Axl, he never has nothing but good things to say about him.

So much for my half-knowledge background info. Hope it helps a bit. ?

After the GNR/Metallica tour, Axl dissed Metallica (specifically Lars and James) in rants onstage.

Whether or not this song is about Axl, I don't know... I don't really care. 

As far as King Nothing being about Axl,  I personally think it's about Michael Jackson, since he is the self-proclaimed king of pop and at the end of the song, it goes "off to never never land" ... referring to MJ's neverland ranch. 

But that's just my interpretation.  I could be wrong.  I've been known to be wrong on occasion, just don't ever tell my hubby that... he's happily content in the idea that I am  never wrong.

Sacramento '93, call James H. racist for not letting Ice T/Bodycount open up the GN'R/Metallica tour of ' 92 and a bunch of other things. Co-headlining was according to Axl on request of Metallica and according to Axl GN'R took a loss on the tour.
