At the RIRIII, when axl plays guitar for a moment, his hand's look that that of a cripple when he's playing. Axl's guitar skills are none existant.

he plays powerchords if I remember correctly, many have funny handstands while playing powerchords. me too, I look like Im giving people the finger when Im doing it! hihi

this is incredible, when during rirIII does axl play guitar?

I remember reading a Duff interview (if I remember correctly it was around the Neurotic-era), where he said that everything is fine every night all the members (of GN'R) are together and they play on acoustic trying to write the new songs and how he enjoys these magnificent moments... and it was in '95 or '96!

Probably these were just ideas, riffs whatever and none of the songs was finished.

Ok, I found the interview (a French Hard Rock interview from 1996) so here goes a little correction:

Hard Rock:What is the status of Guns N' Roses today?

Duff: We rehearsal every night and I play bass! Axl is playing the rhythm guitar, and it works very well! We work from Monday to Friday, ha, ha! There's me, Axl, Slash, Matt, Dizzy. There's also a friend of Axl who helps him to learn to play guitar. But we play, and it works!

Hard Rock: And with Axl on the guitar, it works?

Duff: Believe me man, it kills! You know, with that Neurotic Outsiders thing, I found old sensations. I don't know if I lost it or if I didn't know how to recover it, if you can understand the difference? With Guns N' Roses, we started to play in very big places, and at a moment, you start to forget where you come from. It's hard to explain. When there's a 20-meter pit and 40,000 people, it becomes surrealist. The Neurotic bring me back on the ground and it makes me play like in the beginning, in small bars. Matt feels the same thing. And we both bring this freshness at the rehearsals.

Hard Rock: Is there something concrete that came out from these rehearsals?

Duff: Yes! Some songs are almost finished.

Hard Rock: Titles?

Duff: No! It's only work titles, it's very stupid. I don't want to mention them to have bad luck!

Hard Rock: Tell us about a typical day. Like today?

Duff: OK! Last night, I went to sleep at 3 am, after the rehearsals. Normally, we stop at 5 am, but yesterday? Anyway. I got up at 10 am. It's OK. I can do with 6 hours of sleep. Then I do a lot of interviews on telephone. After, we go out! Slash, Axl and me are going to see the Sex Pistols in Los Angeles. They play here tonight. After the show, we will go to rehearsals. And it goes on. I don't have a social life. I don't even have a girlfriend. Maybe I will find one tonight!

What I do not understand that in the same year (1996) Matt Sorum was talking about having a new guitarist who wasn't Tobias, but he didn't tell the name. Slash did the same, although he didn't say that they had a new band member, he only said that he wished to play with that guy in GN'R, but he didn't name him. I'm sure it was Ryan Roxie since Slash said that 'he played in Alice Cooper's band' and on the second Snakepit record Slash had Ryan on rhythm guitar. But Sorum even mentioned that Izzy's back...  What's not clear for me: was there a time when Paul Tobias was really out of the picture? Or he was the mysterious guitar teacher of Axl?  Huh

It's a fuckin' shame that something went really bad in 1996 after they had sorted out (most of) the differences... Tobias came back and it ruined everything?  Huh

Dude, you being serious?

You haven't heard the unreleased tracks that were released? Where have you been? Axl's guitar solo's, in those 5 infamous tracks, rivaled Slash's finest. I always wondered why Buckethead was ever brought on board especially since he was still getting guitar lessons from Axl between shows. Of course Axl is doing all the guitar work for CD. I can't wait to hear all that guitar shredding that is so signature Axl.

Sarcasm is the way of the Buddha Master...

removing your middle finger is the correct way to play a power chord obviously, and giving people the finger while dong it is just an added pleasure. However, though I support axl as much as the next guy, you can simply tell a guitarist by looking at the hands. Axl is pathetic at the guitar, and that is one sloppy looking pwer chord formation. You wanna see a real player, check out Bucket head's hands during this solo. http://www.newgnr.com/dloads/shortclips/bhntrain.wmv That mofo is remarkable. Axl on the other hand doesn't even remind me of a guitarist, also look at his picking hand, it looks like hes rubbing a floppy dick across the strings. Btw, Robin F is also a sloppy ass soloist. Often times he's out of key, unimaginative, and just a plain ol mess.

Paula giving guitar lessons to Axl, talk about the blind leading the blind. Paula left in 2002 to take guitar lessons himself.

Seriously though, to answer your question, Gary Sunshine ( I believe that's his lst name) was actually teaching Axl how to play guitar. He's credited on "Oh My God" as well if memory serves me correct.

Yeah, I knew that just wasn't sure if he was Axl's guitar teacher between 1994 and 1996, too.

I think that thing about the snakepit record being a GNR record is bullshit!! Didn't the lead singer co-write most of those songs? Maybe Slash took some ideas for GNR to Snakepit but I highly doubt that the whole album was meant for GNR.

"It's like I'm owned by Guns n' Roses in a way," Slash continues in his intimate, stoner-ish timbre. "It's our band. So if I write something, my first and foremost priority would be to dedicate it to Guns." He draws heavily on his cigarette as the maitre d' hovers. "At the time, no one seemed to be interested in the material. Axl (Rose) said, `That's not the kind of music I want to do.' I said, `OK,' and took it all back. We've had that happen too many times in Guns, when certain songs just didn't make it, and they would have been killer. I didn't want to lose any more material."

"I played him the material that I was writing, and he was like, "I don't wanna do that kind of music." The stuff that he was into, I couldn't understand. So I took the material back - I was cool - and at the same time I started jamming with Matt (Sorum) at home. And Gilby was still my mate - I didn't have anything to do with him being fired from Guns - and we met up with Mike Inez, and all of a sudden I realised we had a band. I'm making a short story long here! And Eric (Dover) had this really innocent, natural, very "retro" kind of voice. And I was like "Cool!" y'know - play my ass off, the band's great, Eric sings the way he sings and so on - and we did an album in a short amount of time. And then I booked a tour, and at this point Axl turned around and wanted the material back. And that's where the big shit started, because I told him, "Dude, it's gone. If I remember correctly, it was turned down flat." And that's where we got threats of lawsuits and this, that and the other.
