Catcher In The Rye Question
«
on:
February 16, 2005, 05:23:46 PM »
What is it with the mythical status this song seems to have without anyone hearing it? Does anyone know what the song is supposed to be about? Is this song supposed to be the 'November Rain' or 'Estranged' on 'Chinese Democracy'? This song is talked about by GNR fans the same way November Rain was back in the good old days. And we all know how Axl took years perfecting November Rain. If we find out that Axl is trying to make 'Catcher' perfect the way he did with November Rain and that is the reason for this long delay, I'm gonna puke!!

Catcher in the Rye is written as a tribute to John Lennon.
Mark Chapman the man who assasinated Lennon was fixated with the book.

OK i understand its about John Lennon but why does it have this mythical status among guns fans when no one has heard it? Did Axl tell someone it's the 'Big Gun' on the album or what? I don't get it.

Salinger (the author of the book CITR) never allowed a movie to be made from his book, even after his death.
I don't think he's dead, conny...is he?

To answer the question, Salinger is basically a hermit now (much like Axl at times, it seems) and has not been heard from in many years. It is believed he is alive, and I think family members have confirmed that yes, he is still living. But that's all anyone really knows or is willing to say.

Could it also be partly influenced by Axl's stalker? There have been accounts that he had a fear for some years of being killed by a crazy fan, so maybe he identified with that.

The James Earl Jones character (Terrance Mann) in Field of Dreams was loosly based on Salinger's legendary status.
Not that that clarifies anything, but I just thought you might like to know. ?

Catcher In The Rye was rumoured to be released as a single in 2002, with Madagascar from the VMAs as the B-side. It actually topped a radio station's request list without actually ever been sent to them for airplay!
