i always visit this website for information on gnr and have never register the forum to post any of my views but after seeing this thread i just have to give my 2cents worth of opinion
i have been a gnr fan when they released their debut album appetite for destruction. THEY were
the band that make me fall in love with rock music. before that i was into british pop/80s retro stuff(still do in fact
) and have never ever like rock music, even when the likes of bon jovi, van halen etc were the more popular rock bands and coming up with nice songs. but i just wasnt into it. but gnr change my world. i thought axl's voice was one of the most unique voice around. and sweet child o' mine really hit home. to me gnr is very original. they are just being themselves. just raw stuff.
so the topic question itself to me is really irrelevant because ultimately what attracts me to gnr is their music. not whether they are cool or not. they make me open my eyes to the world of rock music. and that there is really good music in the world of rock, and not just noise(i was ignorant last time
)
personally i dont really bother whether gnr are cool again or not. as long as they write good music, i will listen to them. its truth during the mid 90s they wasnt that popular. so what? i still listen to them. i still listen to the songs which i think is nice to my ears. i do embrace new stuffs like grunge. i am a huge nirvana, blur, suede, smashing pumpkins and weezer fan. i still listen to wham!, duran duran, tears for fears, pet shop boys, depeche mode, new order. when george michael admits he is gay my friend make fun of me for being a fan of his. so what if he is gay? if his music is good, i will listen to it and admit i am a fan. so what if u like something which may not be cool enough to admit it? if its good to your ears and you like it, be proud of it and admit it, even if its not cool.
