GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist Quits, Joins NINE INCH NAILS?

According to The NIN Hotline - http://www.theninhotline.net/news/index.php - guitarist Richard Fortus has quit GUNS N' ROSES and has joined NINE INCH NAILS.

"Given that former NINE INCH NAILS' guitarist Robin Finck was working with GUNS N' ROSES, this, of course, only makes sense," reads a posting on the web site.

If true, Fortus' departure will be the second time a GUNS N' ROSES guitarist has left the group in a little over a year. Back in late 2003, guitarist Buckethead became fed up with GUNS' inability to complete an album or tour and stopped working the band, his manager said last March.

A former member of LOVE SPIT LOVE and PSYCHEDELIC FURS, Fortus joined GUNS N' ROSES in July 2002 as the replacement for Paul Huge (a.k.a. Paul Tobias).

In addition to LOVE SPIT LOVE and PSYCHEDELIC FURS, Fortus has done extensive session work with acts like BT, GRAVITY KILLS, 'N SYNC and ENRIQUE IGLESIAS.

Exclusive: Former Guns n' Roses Guitarist Joins NIN
Sources who know what's up tell us that Richard Fortus has quit Guns N Roses and joined the once-open position of guitarist with Nine Inch Nails.
Given that former Nine Inch Nails' guitarist Robin Finck was working with Guns n' Roses, this, of course, only makes sense.

who cares? if they wanna leave let them leave, i dont want people in GNR that arent loyal anyway.

If Axl and GNR can survive the original members leaving, no replacement member leaving is gonna slow the group down any slower than things are.

GNR will continue with or without fortus.

From blabbermouth

RICHARD FORTUS Has Not Quit GUNS N` ROSES ?Jan. 20, 2005

GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Richard Fortus has NOT quit the band and joined NINE INCH NAILS, according to Merck Mercuriadis, CEO of Sanctuary Group, which represents GN'R and a slew of other artists, including IRON MAIDEN, SLAYER and SLIPKNOT.

Contacted by an administrator at MyGNR.com, a GUNS N' ROSES discussion forum, regarding the rumor that surfaced earlier today about Fortus leaving to hook up with Trent Reznor and Co., Mercuriadis allegedly shot down the report, stating that there is "no truth to it."

Does it really even matter anymore?  GNR is a band in name only right now, and probably for the forseeable future.

It's false

It will be false when Axl himself says it's false.

Already mentioned in the thread, but I clearly remember the "BH incident".

The "management" also said once that Buckethead was "under contract". Guess what. Two months later Axl himself said in a press release Buckethead left the band. I don't believe whoever has to say except Axl, I really believe Axl is the only one in the know right now.

Either way anyway, the album has to be released soon. Even if it's a good gig for them, they're musicians, they can't stay forever "putting finishing touches" to a record. That being said, that NIN rumor really sounds fishy to me. The first one to join that band would be Robin, that's for sure.

Don't forget how Doug Goldstien came out and said reports of both Duff and Matt leaving the band were "untrue" back in the late 90's. Just because Sanctuary currently denies it means nothing.

That being said- hard to imagine Fortus in NIN. Doesn't seem like a logical fit unless Trent is really going in a rock direction.

Well, for me he hasn't survived without the original members but that is a whole different discussion. It's another black eye on the band if its true. Plus, it would be sad to see Richard go.
