I really need to go to therapy...

« on: January 20, 2005, 11:36:59 AM »

i first thought of this when i heard 14 years. i kind of got the impression that some lines were
directed to axl, and then in pretty tied up- "once there was this rock n' roll band rolling on the streets
time went by and it became a joke."...etc.
it was all probably too big for him. he didn't want guns to go that far and axl also started acting like a dick.
he probably couldn't recognize his old childhood friend who was destroyed by all the fame and glitter.
but this is just my opinion.
anyone agree with me on this one?...or not? peace

I always had the same impression. Pretty Tied Up, 14 Years and maybe Double Talkin' Jive is about leaving GN'R.

I always think about it when i hear Pretty  tied up.
And when Axl sings "I  never find anyone to replace you, guess I have to make it through this time without you"
I always think he means Izzy.
And then  I am a little sad Cry

Since everyone is quoting lines, i always liked the line from Pretty Tied Up:
'I just found a million dollars that someone forgot'  Grin

But he found Gilby Clarke to replace him quick enough!lol
No, that line from Estranged is definately about Axl's Ex, besides Izzy was still in the band when that was written.

To me izzy's greatest lyris is this: " Its been 14 years of silence, its been 14 years of pain, its been 14 years that are gone forever and i'll never have again". To me this is like Izzy's psychic vision of the LONG wait that the world was gonna have for another GNR record.

 hihi hihi cool interpretation!

I dont think 14 years was about Axl,axl wouldve had to been treating him like shit since he was 12 or something and  if axl was that shitty to him for 14 years why the hell would he hang around him that long?

The story I recall reading from Izzy was that Axl wrote the chorous. It went something like oddly enough they met up and both had songs called "14 years" and they used Izzy's lyrics for the verses and Axl's chorous. I always got the impression Izzy's lyrics on the UYI albums meant he was looking to get out. One that hasn't been mentioned...

"Back in town and all my old new friends-they're saying how ya been
Fucked up and out of place-that's how I felt back then"
I think he is refering to being asked about GnR after he leaves there.

« Reply #16 on: February 15, 2005, 10:48:20 AM »

Whats strange about many of the lyrics Axl wrote is that they seemed to fit in with more things than what he was writing about. He wrote about a lot of things that seemed to happen later in the bands career. Izzy writes the same way, its almost like Notradamus or something! hihi

That's because,IMO, Izzy's lyrics are very universial, though he was writing about a specific thing people listining can relate it to themeselves or a different situation that's what happens whenever anyone writes something? true and meaningfull, others can relate to it, that's why we can relate them to things that happened later.

I wonder if Weiland thought "I just found a million dollars that Axl forgot" when he took the lead singing role in VR  Smiley
